FESTIVAL NEWS This Bishops of Missouri have decided to transfer the Solemnity of Ascension from Thursday to the following Sunday. The transfer, beginning this year, will mean that the feast will fall not on Thursday, May 24, 2001 but on Sunday, May 27, 2001. In subsequent years the same principle will be followed. The 7th Sunday of Easter will be replaced by the Solemnity of the Ascension. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord provided us with the
opportunity to commemorate an important aspect of the mystery of Christ. From the earliest
days of the Church, the celebration of the Ascension of the Lord has completed the
commemoration of the presence of the risen Lord, which characterizes the season of Easter.
In the Ascension, we recall not only the Lords union with the Father in glory, but
His command to the Church to continue His mission until His promised return. |
