nature of his birth, wondering what Gods plan was for their son, Jesus parents
nevertheless had to contend with childhood diseases, youthful escapades, and the trials of
growing up. We often forget the vital role that Joseph played in the life of Jesus. To
judge by the character of the boy that he raised, Joseph must have been an exceptional
parent. Father Kleba, author of "JOSEPH REMEMBERED" invites us to remember
Joseph, not just as an adjunct to the story of Mary and Jesus, but as a model for our own
parenting. This book is available for purchase at our Religious Gift Shop. RENEW 2001 This, our fifth week of Renew 2001 will focus on "Receiving Gods Gift." "The Lord addresses an invitation to us, urging us to receive him in the sacrament of the Eucharist: Truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." |

Dr. Natalie Ann Spurgeon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Dennis Spurgeon will be joined in marriage to Dr. Brandon Kyle Suedekum, son of Mr. Jerry Suedekum and Mrs. Brenda Crain on April 21,2001 at Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. First notice. The readings for the second half of Lent, are taken from the Gospel of John, beginning on the Monday of the fourth week of Lent at 4:43 and going through to chapter 13. It is clear that these readings from John do not constitute a kind of "crash course" in the life of Jesus, so much as a presentation of the mystery of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, of whom John says that all who believe in him will have eternal life. Christ is presented as the healer and life-giver, as the one who gives life through his confrontation with death and gathers into one the scattered children of God This Sunday, during the 11:00AM Mass, we celebrate the Second Scrutiny for those individuals who are making the "journey in faith". The scrutinies, which are solemnly celebrated on Sundays, are rites for self-searching and repentance and have above all a spiritual purpose. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, then heal the hearts of the elect; to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. These rites, therefore, should complete the conversion of the elect and deepen their resolve to hold fast to Christ and to carry out their decision to love God above all. Because they are asking for the three sacraments of initiation, the elect must have the intention of achieving an intimate knowledge of Christ and his Church, and they are expected particularly to progress in genuine self-knowledge through serious examination of their lives and true repentance. In order to inspire in the elect a desire for purification and redemption by Christ, three scrutinies are celebrated. By this means, first of all, the elect are instructed gradually about the mystery of sin, from which the whole world and every person longs to be delivered and thus saved from its present and future consequences. Second, their spirit is filled with Christ the Redeemer, who is the living water, the light of the world, the resurrection and the life. From the first to the final scrutiny the elect should progress in their perception of sin and their desire for salvation. |
