ST. ANNE CHURCH
FRENCH VILLAGE, MO.

The Mass on New Year’s Day will be celebrated   at 9:30 a.m. This is a Holy Day of Obligation.  On this day we honor Mary the Mother of God. Mass Schedule for New Year’s St. Joseph will have the following Mass schedule for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Mass on December 31, 2009 will be at 5:00 p.m. and on January 1, 2010 will be at 8:00 a.m. Attending the evening Mass will fulfill your obligation for the   Holy Day.

Solemnity of Mary

On New Year’s Day, the octave day of Christmas, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Mother of God. In 1967, Pope Paul VI decreed that January 1 would also be a day of prayer for World Peace.

While the secular world celebrates New Year’s Day, you can put a Catholic emphasis on New Year’s traditions. For example, the tradition of making New Year’s resolutions can be tied to the early Christian practice of reflecting on past mistakes and resolving to improve oneself in the coming year. In recognition of Our Lady as the Queen of Peace, you could set aside time during the day to pray for peace in your home, in your communities, and in the world.

Feast of the Holy Family

Let us pray today: Father, help us to live as the Holy Family,  united in respect and love. Bring us to the joy and peace of your eternal home. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ,  Your Son, Who lives and reigns with  You and the Holy Spirit, one God,  for ever and ever.

Amen.

Happy Birthday

When you see Deacon Don this weekend, please wish him a Happy Birthday! He was born on the 27th of December just a few years ago.

Prayer for the New Year

Dear Lord, at the beginning of this New Year,  I remember that you are a God of beginnings and endings.

You created the world, with all its eternal patterns.

Winter begins in frost, and ends in Spring’s thaw.

Spring begins in new, green life, ending in Summer’s heat.

Summer begins in sunshine, and ends in Autumn’s breezes.

And Autumn’s color leads to the white of Winter again.

As another year ends and begins in our lives, help us to remember that You have made a world of cycles.

When fortune turns to trials, or hardships turn to joy,

Help me to take delight in the life I’ve received from You.

Remind me that I will one day pass from this world and enter a new life like those who’ve gone before me. Amen
