The Christmas Party was a delightful event. We had a good
attendance with about 60 people. The St. Joseph Choir started off the afternoon with an
outstanding performance.
ADVENT
IS A TIME FOR RECONCILIATION
Picture yourself on a small boat in the middle of the
ocean. Its windy, and you have to struggle to stay afloat. If it werent for
your compass youd be lost.
The sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is like a compass,
designed to help keep us on track toward Heaven despite heavy winds and waves. The points
of the compass are such Biblical guides for our behavior as the Ten Commandments. (Exodus
20:1-17) and the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12) and we are steering toward them.
Advent is a good time to make a heartfelt Confession. Its
like bringing your boat into harbor to clean it, fix it up, and get it ready for another
years journey.
To prepare, ask yourself how your actions and behavior compare to
the Biblical standards. The difference would be a basis for your confession.
Jesus intended the Sacrament of Reconciliation to be a reminder of
his unending mercy. Receiving his forgiveness helps us to meet him at Christmas with a
clean conscience and a joyful heart.
YOUTH GROUP
Attention: There will not be a Youth Group meeting on December 21,
2003.
A Youth Mass will be at St. Joseph Parish in Farmington, starting
at 6:00p.m. on Sunday, December 28th.
We can car pool and after Mass we will go out to eat.
Please call Paulette at 358- 4041 if you plan to attend.
December is the month in which we anticipate the coming of Christ
and begin the celebration of his birth.
December 13 St. Lucy (304) In pagan Sicily, St. Lucy vowed
to remain chaste for Jesus. She was pursued by many eligible men ,but she refused them
all. One of these disappointed suitors turned her in for being a Christian at a time when
it was illegal. St. Lucy was executed as a result.
December 26 St. Stephen (first century). A deacon of the
early Church, St. Stephen preached that God can be found everywhere, not just in one place
like the temple. He angered the Jewish authorities by pointing out that the Israelites
consiste3ntly rejected Gods messengers and chosen servants. For that he was stoned
to death and became the first martyr.
REMEMBER
We will have a Penance Service on Monday, December 22, at 7:00p.m.
Three visiting priests will be hearing confession.
On Christmas Eve and Day, the ushers will be passing out calendars
and a small token of appreciation from Deacon Ron, Don and myself to each family for being
such loyal and faithful parishioners.
