On Saturday, November 9, 2002, Don Schmitt of St. Anne Parish was
installed in the Ministry of Acolyte. This is the third step in formation prior to being
ordained to the Permanent Diaconate. This ceremony was at Blessed John XXIII Chapel, at
10:00a.m. Monsignor Richard Stika presided.
The Ministry of Acolyte is a formal ministry in the Catholic
Church. There are three steps necessary for Ordination to the Permanent Diaconate. The
first step is Candidacy or acceptance, the second step is Lector or reader, and the third
step is Acolyte. The final step will be the Sacrament of Holy Orders conferred by
Archbishop Justin Rigali at the St. Louis Cathedral Basilica next June.
Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted
by Christ to His apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time,
thus it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: Episcopate,
Presbyterate, and Diaconate. (CCC1536)
An Acolytes duties are to assist the priest at the
Eucharistic celebration, as well as at other liturgical celebrations.
Please remember Don in your prayers as he continues his journey to
Ordination as a Permanent Deacon in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.,

WE
BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER
WEEK 6 We Believe
RESPONDING IN FAITH
Faith is a response of mind and heart and action to our almighty,
all-loving God. When we pray the Nicene Creed at Sunday Mass, we are responding in faith,
in love, in thanksgiving, and in trust to our God who reveals himself to us. Our faith
guides us and supports us in daily life.
This week marks the conclusion of our first season in the We Believe . . . series. Be sure to join your group for its last
gathering until next Lent.
Season Two in the We Believe . . . series
is entitled WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST. It will be offered
this coming Lent and is scheduled to being the week of Sunday March 2, 2003.
DID YOU SIGN UP FOR THE LIGUORIAN YET? Last week you heard a
special presentation about the LIGUORIAN MAGAZINE. Did you return your envelope? If not,
please take a minute to fill it out and drop it in the collection basket.
The LIGUORIAN is the most popular Catholic magazine in the USA and
can help you live a truly Catholic life. Why not give it a try!
WE ARE NEVER ALONE
God made a solemn promise to us, "I will never fail you nor
forsake you " (Hebrews 13:5). And God always keeps his promises.
Next weekend, (November 23-24) we will hold the annual appeal for
the Catholic Campaign CCHD has been our Churchs effective and compassionate response
to the needs of low-income people in our own diocese and throughout the country. CCHD
funds more that 300 projects each year, helping
people to work within their own communities to create jobs,
provide affordable housing, ensure decent wages and organize for change. Please respond
generously to this second collection next weekend.
The St. Joseph Prayer Group "TOGETHER IN HIS NAME" will
meet on Monday, November 18, at 7:00p.m. in Church. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed
for private prayer between 6:00p.m. and 7:00p.m.
During this season of thanksgiving please come and take the time
to thank God for all that has been given to you. ALL ARE WELCOME!
ONE MINUTE MEDITATIONS
Prayer tip from St. Simeon
"Sit down alone and in silence. Lower your head, shut your
eyes, breathe gently, and imagine yourself looking into your own heart. As you breathe in
say, "Lord Jesus Christ," and as you breathe out say, "have mercy on
me".
