SCHOOL NEWS
An American Flag that was flown over the
White House has been donated to St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School via the office of
Senator Richard Durbin, Washington, D.C.. The
flag was petitioned for the school through the efforts of Mr. Patrick J. Monahan of
Springfield, Illinois. On Veterans Day,
November 11, the flag was officially raised on the schools flagpole. We thank
Senator Durbin and Mr. Monahan for this special honor.
Daughters of Isabella
The
Daughters of Isabella will have a Dinner and Meeting on Monday, November 14 in the church
hall. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.
followed by the meeting at 7:00 p.m.
Please try to attend to welcome our
new Regent and Officers, as well as our returning ones.
We will celebrate September through December birthdays. Also, bring a baby picture of yourself preferably
2 years or younger in a sealed envelope. Dont
forget the scheduled Bake Sale on November 19th and 20th after all
the Masses.
OUR LADY SODALITY
The regular meeting will be Tuesday,
November 15, at 6:30 p.m. There will be a special showing of art work by Jenny Akins and
other artist. Refreshments will be served. Work will begin on decorating the baskets to be
used for the fruit for the shut-ins.
33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
For you
yourself know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night
(1 Thessalonians 5:2)
We know that one day our Master will come and ask us for an
accounting of how we used our gifts, just as the servants were asked to account for how
they used their talents. In preparing for
that accounting, it is important to remember that enough of anything is enough. Enough food, enough clothes, enough money-is all
we need. The rest has been entrusted to us to
share. In Gods eyes the one with the
most toys probably will not win. This is a
good thought to keep in mind as we begin the season of frantic bouing.

Memories Worth Sharing
On October 7, 8 & 9, twelve of us ladies of the parish attended
the annual retreat at Kings House in Belleville, Illinois. Each day we celebrated Mass, had a brief
conference and creative solitude, with plenty of time for private reading, reflection or
just plain rest. Following evening services
on Saturday, we had an opportunity for Reconciliation. Each of us truly enjoyed the
weekend and cant say enough about the experience.
This retreat is open to all the ladies of the parish and St. Annes and you do
not need to belong to an organization to attend. Mark
your calendars (it is always the 2nd weekend in October). For more information, please contact
Margaret Scott at 358-0537.
