WE BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER
WEEK 5 We Believe in One God the Father, the
Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth,
Our faith teaches us that God is the Creator of all that
is. It is through divine providence that God sustains and supports what he has created.
The world is filled with creatures that are good and beautiful and interdependent. Our
Catholic Faith tells us that there is meaning in the universe and solidarity among all
creation. Men and women are the summit of Gods creative work, and are responsible
for helping all creation praise God.
Be sure to join your group for fifth week of
WE BELIEVE IN GOD THE FATHER.
Matthew 18:15-20. Solving disputes and strengthening the
Body.
Jesus wants us to live in harmony with one another but discord can
interfere. In this passage of St. Matthews Gospel, Jesus tells us how to handle
disputes in a way that restores harmony.
First, if we feel wronged, Jesus asks that we try to resolve the
matter privately. Involving others only makes things worse. If that doesnt settle
the matter, enlist the help of one or two "witnesses" to establish the facts of
the case and get at the truth. The witnesses can act as both referees and judges. If that
doesnt work Jesus said to turn the matter over to the Church, the authority of the
community. A final resort is to withdraw friendship or fellowship from the offender.
The purpose of this strategy? To help us avoid choosing
destructive self-interest over the good of the Body of Christ. Instead of indulging our
personal feelings, Jesus wants us to deal with disputes in a way to resolve them
constructively. Doing so helps us to strengthen our community, and he promises to be with
us in this pursuit.
In a fine model of Christian stewardship, the Bonne Terre
Ministerial Alliance employs volunteers to renovate donated goods and operate a thrift
store. If you are switching your summer wardrobe for fall and winter duds, this is a
perfect time to clean closets.
Most of us complain about clutter, yet clutch tightly to
possessions we no longer use. Some people possess next to nothing; and that extra raincoat
you no longer wear could be keeping somebody warm and dry. Remember: less clutter equals
more clarity.
