You Are Invited
Looking for a weekend for yourself? Do you want some quiet and
rest to rekindle your relationship with God? Come join others from your parish community
on a retreat weekend for women at King’s House Retreat and Renewal Center in
Belleville, Illinois, October 3rd- 5th. Just 15 minutes by freeway from St. Louis.
Weekend includes quiet time, reflective talks, celebration of the Eucharist and
Reconciliation, and time for rest. Contact Laura Patterson at 573-358-1198, if no answers
please leave a message.
Liturgical Changes
I recently received a communication from the chancery concerning
the bishops’ changes to our liturgical wording. In the next few weeks I will publish
the suggested changes one at a time. We’ll ease into this as gently as possible. It
is what is being asked of us and as your pastor I encourage you to comply.
Number 1:
When the priest says, "The Lord be with you," the
faithful respond, "And with your spirit," rather than simply, "And also
with you."

Special Collection
On the weekend of October 4th and 5th there will be a special
collection throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis to financially support the formation
program for the Permanent Diaconate. This collection helps to ensure that those in
formation receive the best education and guidance possible during the 5 year formation
process. Please consider being a generous contributor. Without the financial support from
people like you, the formation program for our Permanent Diaconate would not be what it is
today. Thank you for your continued support of those who are discerning whether God is
calling them to service as a deacon.
The "Public Square"
Rosary Crusade
Every catholic is invited to join us in the "Public Square
Rosary Crusade" on October 11, 2008. We will gather at noon in the Park Hills City
Park, Pavilion #4. The goal is to place thousands of rosaries in the hands of our Blessed
Mother. She will forward the prayers to her Divine Son. The message for the world from our
Blessed Mother at Fatima, Portugal is "Do penance, amend your life, pray the
Rosary."
Friends of Priests
"Friends of Priests" is an invitation to pray for all
Priests and Consecrated Religious. This campaign will begin on Sunday October 5, 2008 and
end on Sunday December 7, 2008. All are welcome to attend a Mass at the Cathedral Basilica
in St. Louis on Saturday December 6, 2008 at 5:00 pm. You are also invited to sign up this
weekend for a spiritual bouquet that will be presented to the Archdiocese during the Mass
and allow you to be present if you cannot physically attend!
RCIA classes
If you or you know someone interested in learning more about the
Catholic faith or joining the Catholic Church RCIA classes are for you. Classes start the
second Wednesday in October, Oct 8th, in the meeting room at St. Joseph’s.
Pregnancy Resource Center
The Pregnancy Resource Center in Farmington will be sponsoring its
3rd annual "Walk for Life Walkathon" to raise money to support their ministry to
pregnant women and their unborn babies. We are looking for volunteers from out parish to
walk on Saturday, October 11. We will only be walking 2 miles through downtown Farmington
so all ages can participate and it will only take about 1 hour of your time. Starting time
will be 9 am at the parking lot of the First Free Will Baptist Church (across the street
from the Pregnancy Resource Center office, 201 N. A Street)
If you are unable to walk at that time, you can walk at your
convenience anytime before October 11, 2008. If you can’t walk but would like to make
a donation, or have any questions, please contact Paulette DeGonia 358-4041.
A BIG Thank You
A Thank you goes out to St. Joseph Quilters for their generous
donation of $300.00 to go towards payment of refinishing ciboria.
