On the 5th of October we will have our second Deacon
collection. God has blessed us with two wonderful Deacons and as you know developing and
nurturing anything has its cost.
The Diocese has always had a seminary system for priests dating
back to the 1860s. However, with the use of the Diaconate and the rise in the number
of vocations to the Diaconate the Diocese has had to find a way to pay for the cost of
their training.
Your generosity toward this second collection will go a long way
in lessening the financial obligation for this ministry.
Prayerfully in Christ,
Father John

WE BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Season Three in the We Believe
Series Begins
October 12!
We Believe
is the name of a religious education series
for adults who want to deepen their faith through reflecting on the teachings of the
Nicene Creed and discovering ways to apply these teachings to daily life. The first
season, offered in the fall of 2002, focused on God the Father. The second season, offered
this past Lent, focused on Jesus Christ. The third season, to be offered this fall, will
explore Church teaching on the Holy Spirit. The fourth season, scheduled for Lent 2004,
will study the nature of the Catholic Church.
We Believe in the Holy Spirit is
the name of the third season in the series. It is not necessary to have participated in
previous seasons of the We Believe program to take part in
weekly sessions. Each session combines teachings of the Church, reflections, faith
sharing, prayer, and suggestions for ways to live ones faith in daily life.
This resource will be an excellent tool for adult Catholics of all
ages: parents, teachers, and catechists; inquirers, candidates, and catechumens in the
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA); members of small church communities; and
all the adults of our parish who are searching for ways to grow in faith.
Each session in the We Believe
series uses a small-group format and invites participants to grow in their faith and in
their understanding of what the Church teaches through a process of reflection and faith
sharing. It is not necessary to have participated in any previous adult religious
education programs offered by our parish to take part in this series. We would like to
encourage all the adults and young adults of our parish to participate in this special
opportunity to grow in faith.
The We Believe
series will
be offered at a variety of times. You can choose to join a group that will meet at church
or a group that will meet in the home of a parishioner.
Everyone is warmly invited and encouraged to attend a farewell
celebration with Archbishop Justin Rigali on Sunday, October 5, at 2:30p.m. at the
Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. The celebration begins with Mass, at which the Archbishop
will be principal celebrant and homilist, and continues with a reception immediately
following in Boland Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity to thank Archbishop Rigali for
his nine years of pastoral leadership and to pray with him and for him as he prepares to
depart St. Louis for his installation as Archbishop of Philadelphia.
STEWARDSHIP AWARENESS SUNDAY
25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME.
"YOU COVET BUT DO NOT POSSES."
These words from the letter of St. James remind us that we really
own nothing. Absolutely everything we have is a gift from God, on loan to use for the
short time that we are here on earth. It is our responsibility to faithfully and
generously use the gifts God has given to make a difference, to make the difference God
has sent us here to make.
