John 20:19-23. Locked doors wont keep Jesus out
Despite hearing that Jesus was being spotted around town, the disciples
were surely shocked to see Jesus appeared to them in a locked room. They thought the lock
would keep everyone out.
He appeared to them so that they could be first-person witnesses to his
resurrection. But he also came to commission them to carry on the work he started, the
work for which he died and rose again. Its why they were chosen.
But Jesus knew they needed strength. So he breathed on them, just like
when God breathed life into Adam and created a new creature. By doing so, Jesus renewed
his disciples, strengthened them, and gave them a new outlook to help them continue his
mission.
We have also been chosen to do Gods work. By virtue of our baptism,
Jesus has commissioned us to spread the word of Gods love and the hope of salvation.
Locked doors will not give us peace, nor will they keep out our loving Savior. True peace
only comes in accepting Gods will, doing his work, and opening the locked doors of
our heart to him.

In the next few weeks we will be
following up on the wonderful presentation by Deacon Ron on the liturgical changes
requested by the United Sates conference of Catholic Bishops.
One of the most challenging changes involves all of us in the
reception of the Eucharist every Sunday.
The norm requests us to bow before receiving the consecrated bread
and wine. This is my suggestion. When the person if front of you receives the Eucharist,
that would be the time for you to bow and then step forward with your hands cupped as the
person if front of you steps aside to communicate.
Next week we will discuss other norms.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Father John
TODAY IS THE DAY! FESTIVAL 2003 HAS ARRIVED !
All the preparations have been made. Invite some of your family
and friends and come and enjoy the delicious dinner, The Plummer Family Show, Ted
Drews custard and Guss Pretzels.
Please park on the North County Elementary School parking lot so
as to leave parking spots available for our guests.
After our wonderful Festival there is a big mess. Volunteers are
needed to clean up Monday morning. We will start bright and early after Mass. Lunch will
be served at noon. Thank you and I trust many of you will volunteer, as in the past.
Father John
Dear Friends in Christ,
"No one has greater love than this" (John 15:13).
This theme of the 2003 Peters Pence Collection for the Works
of the Holy Father invites us to join Pope John Paul II as he strives to assist suffering
and needy people everywhere.
From the four corners of the world come stories of what people
suffer as a result of extreme poverty, war, famine, ethnic clashes and natural disasters.
The challenge is immense.
The annual Peters Pence Collection, which is to be taken up
on the weekend of June 28-29, gives us all an opportunity to join in partnership with the
Holy Father in his works of mercy.
I am deeply appreciative of your support for these works of our
Holy Father, especially this year as he completes 25 years as Pope, in constant service to
those in need.
Gratefully in Christ,
Most Reverend Justin Rigali
Archbishop of St. Louis
