Deacon Candidate: Don Schmitt Canon
1029 After all circumstances have been taken into account in the prudent judgement
of the proper bishop or the competent major superior, only those should be promoted to
orders who have an integral faith, are motivated by a right intention, posses the required
knowledge, and enjoy a good reputation, good morals, and proven virtues, and other
physical and psychological qualities which are appropriate to the order to be received.
Thats what Canon Law says about one who petitions the
Archbishop to be ordained a Deacon. Canon 1029 makes it clear that becoming a Deacon is
not about fulfilling requirements, it is about a integrated lifestyle of love for Jesus
Christ and of service to the Church
On Saturday, June 7, 2003, one of our parishioners, Mr. Don
Schmitt will be ordained for service to the Archdiocese of St. Louis, through prayer and
imposition of hands, by Archbishop Justin Rigali.
Following the age-old custom of the Church, as maintained by Canon
Law (canon1051, paragraph 2), it is my privilege to announce publicly that Don Schmitt is
a candidate for the major order of Sacred Diaconate, to be conferred on June 7, 2003 at
10:00a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica. Anyone who knows any reason why this candidate should
not be ordained is bound to disclose this immediately.
Please join me in prayer for Don Schmitt and for each of the
diaconate candidates, that these times of immediate preparation for ordination will be
times of extra-ordinary grace and abiding peace.
Sign up for the ADA is this weekend. Mr. John Pelicano will be
speaking to us after Communion and will ask us to participate again in the ADA. Sign up
after Mass will be at St. Joseph School. Remember this is your last chance to sign up.
There is more exciting news about the annual Church Festival!! Ted
Drew is going to visit us! Well, not Ted himself, but the best part of him
his
Frozen Custard that has been a summertime treat in St. Louis for many, many years.Thats
right, along with the Plummers Family
Show you will be able to enjoy a cup of Ted Drews Frozen
Custardon Sunday, June 22. But there is still more news to come.
Our thanks to all of those who took time last weekend to fill in
the sign-up forms. This week we are putting some of the forms in the pews and have put a
box at each of the exits to the Church. In addition, we will be staffing a table at the
ADA sign up over at School.
It is our hope those that have not had time will fill out a form
this weekend and drop it in the box or bring it to the School. We will have additional
forms at School. If you have any questions, please come by and ask us.
We need you to fill out one of the forms.
There is a blank on the form where you can give us ideas on what you would like to see at
the Festival. Filling out a form saves you from being contacted later. So even if you have
a job, let us know . If for some reason you chose not to help, let us know and we will
take you off our list. Once more thank you for your co-operation.
