This represents a change of date for the April meeting due to a special presentation by
Wilhelma Witzke from Germany who is the guest speaker. Refreshments will follow. Please
RSVP to the Parish Office (358-2112) so that we will have some idea as to how many will be
attending. Lets all show up and give Ms. Witzke a big USA welcome!
New Sodality officers are
as follows:
Janet Mecey (President), Anna Mosberger
(Vice-President), Ruth Hunt (Secretary), and Sandy Rainbolt (Treasurer).

Parish Office
Foyer
With the official arrival of spring just around the corner, the
Parish Office foyer has been given a "fresh look." Some of the walls have been
painted a lovely shade of green and a park bench has been added for sitting purposes in
case you are asked to wait for entry into the Parish Office. In addition, a lantern serves
as a night-light and a soothing water fountain with various natural sounds complete this
calm setting. We hope you will find the renewal of the space more convenient and
comfortable while you wait.
Quilt

St. James
Church, 201 North Missouri Avenue in Potosi will have a Quilt Bingo on Sunday, April 15,

We find delight in the beauty and happiness of
children that makes the heart too big for the body.

Sixth Week of
Lent My Offering to God This Week
Palm
Sunday, April 1: I will give clothes to a homeless shelter to glorify Jesus.
Monday, April 2: Today I will do something thoughtful for someone
who has been good to me.
Tuesday, April 3: I will pray for courage in witnessing my faith
in Christ, even when there is opposition.
Wednesday, April 4: I will focus on trying to please Jesus by
doing as He commands.
Holy Thursday, April 5: Today I will put the needs of someone else
before my own.
Good Friday, April 6: I will honor Christs great sacrifice
by making a sacrifice for others.
Holy Saturday, April 7: I will try to bring hope to others in some
small way.
Easter Sunday, April 8: I will rejoice in Christs gift of
eternal life.
What Does
"Alleluia" Mean?
Alleluia is a Hebrew word that means, "Praise the
Lord!" In the beginning, Jewish believers sang it during prayer at the Temple in
Jerusalem, and hundreds of people lifted up their voices with this cry of admiration for
God. In the Bible, many of the prayer-poems which we call the psalms begin or end with
this word. For example, Psalm 1-6: "Alleluia! Give thanks to the LORD, who is good,
whose love endures forever."
After the death and Resurrection of Jesus, Christians used the
same acclamation to express their happiness at seeing Him alive. Now, it reminds all the
world of Jesus victory over death. Think of that the next time you hear
"Alleluia" at Mass, for example, just before the reading of the Gospel.
Western Christians do not sing the Alleluia. And then, the night
before Easter, with all the churches of the world ablaze with light, the song of Alleluia
resounds joyously again.
