WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST
WEEK 4
FOR OUR SAKE HE SUFFERED,
DIED, AND WAS BURIED
Christian faith challenges us to accept the mystery of
suffering. Even Jesus was not exempt form it. In his Letter to the Philippians, Saint Paul
tells us that Jesus humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross. In
his humility and obedience, even in the face of death, Jesus has given us an example to
follow. Love is the fullest source of the answer to the question of the meaning of
suffering. God has given us the answer in the cross of his Son.
Be sure to join your small group for the fourth week of WE BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST.
St. Joseph School wishes to thank the Daughters of Isabella
for their generosity in donating new book selections for the library and also the printed
material needed for the new curriculum.

Dear Friends in Christ,
The story of the Last Judgement reminds us how very important it
is for us to care for our brothers and sisters in need. When we ignore those who are
hungry, thirsty, ill, without clothes, and in prison, we turn away from Christ himself.
One important opportunity we have to demonstrate the compassion
and generosity that characterize a Christian life is the American Bishops Overseas
Appeal. This annual appeal, which focuses this year on the theme "Jesus in
disguise," helps to support the international social ministry of the Church by
funding the work of four agencies: Catholic Relief Services, Migration and Refugee
Services, the Holy Fathers Relief Fund, and the Department of Social Development and
World Peace.
On the weekend of March 29 30 this collection will be taken
up in parishes throughout the Archdiocese. I invite you to participate in this years
American Bishops Overseas Appeal and give as generously as your means allows.
Gratefully yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Justin Rigali
Archbishop of St. Louis

God gives us all the gifts of water, light, and life itself.
In Lent, we have graced opportunity to celebrate with the people
who are preparing for baptism and full initiation into the Catholic Church.
They are studying and receiving the communitys support in
our parish Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). At the same time, active
Catholics will spend 40 days gearing up for the Churchs most important time of
worshipping God. Here the images of Easter--- the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ ---come together in sacred song, story, prayer, and worship.
Whether we are sponsors or fellow parishioners praying for them,
practically speaking we are journeying with those seeking this Lent to join us if faith. A
unique aspect of their journey is the way the parish community prays over the elect.
These prayers are known as the Scrutinies --- helping the elect
uncover and heal what is weak and strengthen what is good and strong in them as they find
their spirits filled with Christ the Redeemer. These rites are celebrated on the third,
fourth and fifth Sundays. These prayerful rites, the Scrutinies, tell us of meeting Jesus
who is the water of life, the light of the world, and promise of eternal life.
Please continue to pray for our catechumans!
