LENT begins on Ash Wednesday,
March 5, an ancient season aimed at nurturing the spiritual roots of the Christian. Masses
on this day will be at 8:00a.m. and 5:00p.m. at St. Joseph Church and at 6:30p.m. at St.
Anne Church. Ashes will be blessed and distributed during all the Masses.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of required fast (ages 18 to 59) and abstinence
(ages 14 and over). All other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Only those
with a serious health problem are excused from these obligations.
We should strive to make all days of Lent a time of prayer and
penance.
Rice Bowls are available at the entrances this weekend for those
who would like to participate in this Lenten sacrificial program. They will be collected
at the end of Lent and donations will be used for Catholic Relief Services in their effort
to feed the hungry of the world.

WE BELIEVE IN CHRIST
WEEK 1 TRUE GOD FROM TRUE GOD HE CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN AND BECAME MAN
The incarnation tells us that the Son of God took on human
nature. He became one of us. Jesus Christ, as true God and true man, loves us and invites
us to share in his divine life. What an awesome invitation this is ! A Christian
spirituality is an incarnational spirituality, one that fills us with joy and hope, a
spirituality that tells us that God loves us and that our lives are sacred to Him. God
came down to us so that we might be lifted up to God. The incarnation teaches us about the
goodness of creation and the dignity of all people.
It is not too late to join a group to learn more about the meaning
of the Incarnation.
Dear Friends in Christ,
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
These words, taken from the Stations of the Cross, remind us of
Christs love for us. As we enter into this Lenten Season the Church invites all of
us to respond to this love through prayer, fasting, sacrificial offerings and works of
charity.
My prayer at this time for all the members of the Archdiocese of
St. Louis is that we devote extra time to grow in our personal relationship with Jesus
Christ and that we surrender ourselves to His gentle invitation to us to discard whatever
in our lives separates us from Him.
I would encourage each of you to take part in the special Lenten
services which are offered at your parish . Most importantly, with trust in the merciful
love of God, I extend a special invitation to you to receive the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. This is a special opportunity to experience Gods love and to prepare
for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Meanwhile, in sending you the Archdiocease Lenten Regulations, I
entrust the Lenten Journey of all our people to our Blessed Mother Mary, that she may
obtain for us the gift of newness of life in Chirst.
Sincerely yours,
