Lenten Observance
Archdiocese of St. Louis
Ash Wednesday, February 25, 2009, and Good Friday,
April 10, 2009, are days of abstinence for all Catholics over the age of 14. On these two
days, fast as well as abstinence is also obligatory for those from the ages of 18 to 59.
Abstinence means abstinence from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller
meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic should hold himself
lightly excused, but if there is a serious health problem, this obligation would not
apply.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which is a time for
prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This spiritual journey prepares us for Easter the
celebration of our salvation through the passion, death and resurrection of Christ.
Services will be held on Ash Wednesday at the 8:00 a.m. and the :00
p.m. Masses at St. Joseph Church.
SOS For Help
Bingo is going a long way in helping us to keep our school open.
We are experiencing a growth of players but a decline in workers. If anyone could give us
one Thursday a month, you could lighten the load of all of those who have been covering
for the volunteers who have had to drop out. Please consider this a desperate and pleading
request. Contact the rectory if you can help.
St. Louis Review
Please be reminded you must make a commitment on the St. Louis
Review as soon as possible. Thank you to all of our parishioners who have responded.
Please drop a note in the collection basket.
Parish Council
Ballots are available this weekend for the election of new members
for a three-year term for the Parish Council. Please vote for two nominees in each age
group and return in the collection basket.

Bingo figures from Feb. 12, 2009:
