FRENCH VILLAGE, MO.
AS YOU ALL KNOW,
LENT WILL BE STARTING THIS WEEK, AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT WE HAVE ANOTHER FORTY-HOUR
DEVOTION ENDING WITH BENEDICTION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT. NEXT WEEK THE DATE ALONG WITH A
SIGH UP SHEET WILL BE AVAILABLE. WE CAME TOGETHER WITH PARISH SOLIDARILITY THE LAST TIME.
LET US SEE IF WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!
WE ARE SEEING A GROWING PARTICIPATION IN THE RECITION OF THE HOLY
ROSARY BEFORE MASS. WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO COME ESPECIALLY DURING THE LENTEN SEASON.
LENTEN PRO-LIFE PRAYER
You are invited to join with Christians
around the world in saying this Lenten prayer for life each day .
Father of all mercy, we thank you for this season of grace and light. We know that
sin has blinded us. Draw us ever closer to you, in prayer and penance. Give all your
people a clearer understanding of the profound dignity of every human life, including the
children in the womb. As we prepare to celebrate the death and Resurrection of Christ,
strengthen our joy in the fact that life has already conquered death. As we prepare to
renew the promises of our own baptism this Easter, grant that we may live more faithfully
as the children of God and the People of Life. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
LENTEN MESSAGE
OF OUR HOLY FATHER
BENEDICT XVI 2007
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
" They shall look on Him whom they have pierced" (John 19:37).
This is the biblical theme that this year guides our Lenten reflection. Lent is a
favorable time to learn to stay with Mary and John, the beloved disciple, close to Him who
on the Cross, consummated for all mankind the sacrifice of His life (cf. John 19:25). With
a more fervent participation let us direct our gaze, therefore, in this time of penance
and prayer, at Christ crucified who, dying on Calvary, revealed fully for us the love of
God. In the Encyclical Deus caritas est,
I dwelt upon this theme of love, highlighting its two fundamental forms: agape and eros.
ON THE OBSERVANCE OF THE HOLY SEASON OF LENT
On Ash Wednesday, this coming February 21st, the
Church throughout the world begins her annual observance of the season of Lent. During
Lent, we go with Christ into the desert to be fortified in our relationship of love of God
and one another. Lent is the annual time of strong grace for renewal in the Christian life
through more intense prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
During Holy Mass on Ash Wednesday, the blessed ashes will be
imposed on our foreheads in the form of the Cross. This imposition of ashes reminds us
that, through the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, we receive the grace to purify our
hearts of sin.
Raymond L. Burke,
Archbishop of Saint Louis
Each week as space permits we will continue with the message sent to us by our
beloved
Holy Father Benedict XVI through the Archbishop.
