Just a
reminder that our first Picnic meeting will be held immediately following Mass this

Picnic
DONT FORGET!
The Daughters of Isabella meeting will be held Monday,
February 10th. Dinner will be served at 6:00p.m. We will welcome Pat Gebken,
State Regent as our guest. Please come and join us for a good time evening.
The Office of Vocations is sponsoring a retreat/discernment
weekend for high school men at Cardinal Glennon Seminary, April 12 14, 2003.
Inspired by the Gospel passage John 1:38-39, the weekend is entitled "Come and
See!" The weekend provides the opportunity for young men to pray, reflect, and
explore the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood. The men will experience living at
the Seminary, praying with the students and meeting the staff of Cardinal Glennon
Seminary. They will also have the opportunity of attending classes with the college
seminarians on Monday at St. Louis University (college students live at Cardinal Glennon
Seminary while attending Saint Louis University for classes). The weekend begins with a
4:30p.m. arrival on Saturday and ends after dinner on Monday. Ideally, retreatants would
be in either their junior or senior year of high school (younger applicants will not be
turned away). There is no charge for the weekend retreat just contact Fr. Michael
Butler at the Office of Vocations - phone: 314-792-6460.
CAREER INFORMATION FAIR
There will be a Career Information Fair for anyone
interested in teaching in a Catholic elementary or secondary school from 4-6p.m.,
Thursday, February 20 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, 20 Archbishop May Drive in
Shrewsbury. Visitors can talk with school principals from the Archdiocese, pick up
application packets and learn about the teacher salary and benefits package. For more
information call 314-792-7304.
WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT?
Why do Catholics bless themselves with holy water when they enter a church?
- Holy water reminds us of our baptism, our first entrance into the church.
- Why do Catholics genuflect at the pew?
- Catholics genuflect in front of a tabernacle to remember that we hold no duty to an
earthly "king." Our duty is to Christ.
- Why do Catholics light so many candles?
- Candles remind us that Christ is the light that shatters all darkness. People light
candles in prayer; as the candles burns, the prayer continues.
- Why do we have prayers to the saints in our liturgy?
A. Liturgy is a community work joined in by all the faithful, including those who have
already gone before us.
