Sunday, February 2, is the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord and Candlemas Day. On
this day, candles that will be used in church throughout the year are blessed. Also, boxed
sets of candles, which will be blessed at Saturday Mass, are available in the back of
church at the Gift Shop for a $3.00 offering.
Monday, February 3, is the Feast of Saint Blasé. Blessing of
throats will take place on this day at 8:00a.m. Mass and also on
Saturday and Sunday Masses (February 1-2).
Sr. Elaine AuBuchon, a School Sister of Notre Dame, and Sr. Gail
Borgmeyer, a Pallotine Sister who work with the Criminal Justice Ministry of the St.
Vincent DePaul Society in St. Louis, will be present for all the Masses next weekend. They
will speak briefly about ministry needs that parishioners might want to consider at the
new prison here.
Catholic Schools Week 2003 will be celebrated at St. Joseph
Catholic Elementary School beginning Monday, January 27 through Friday, January 31, 2003.
This years theme is "Making a World of Difference."Many education and fun
activities are planned for the students.

Monday: Faith Day
Monday Mass as usual. Refreshments served in the auditorium.
Father James French will speak to the children at 10:00a.m. Parents and friends are
invited. A tree will be placed in the main hall that the children will decorate with their
prayer and communion intentions for the week. In the afternoon the students will sing to
the residents of St. Joe Manor. "Letters of Intent" concerning registration of
students for the coming school year will be sent home to parent(s).
Tuesday: P.I. Day
Students are requested to wear their favorite hat or create a zany
one. P.I. stands for Parent Involvement! Parents are invited to enter the classroom as a
teacher. Lunch provided by the Home and School Association at Cicis Pizza and then
skating at the Roller Zone.
Wednesday: Mark Twain Day
Students are requested to dress in their pajamas. The students
will write their thoughts on what they like most about attending St. Joseph School. They
will transfer these on white paper "fence posts" and one continuous fence will
be placed on display in the main hall. In the afternoon, the movie Tom Sawyer will be
shown in the auditorium in the orginial version. Popcorn and soda will be served.
Thursday: Talent Day
Students are requested to wear their "wackiest of
wardrobes" such as mismatched shoes, polka dots with stripes, plaids with prints etc.
A talent show will be held at 10:00a.m. Participation is voluntary. At 1:30 p.m. the
Mineral Area Council of Arts will present "Favorite Shakespearian Tales"in the
auditorium. Parents are welcome!
Friday: Carnival and Patriotic Day
Uniforms are not required. Students are requested to wear red,
white and blue. Friday morning Mass as usual. Father John will conclude the educational
activities by speaking to the students on the different parts of the Mass. The Home and
School will once again entertain the children with a carnival in the auditorium. Lunch
will not be served as there will be early dismissal at noon.

Matthew Lenhardt and Katie Lea Lenhardt. May God bless them on their pilgrimage of faith
and may their families continue to lead them and be a witness to Gods love.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2003
Appreciation Dinner. The food was excellent and the entertainment was most enjoyable.

Catholic Family Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund applications for
the 2003-2004 school year are now available at the rectory.
Students must attend a Parochial Elementary School or an
Archdiocesan, Regional or Parochial High School to be eligible. The due date for the
applications is March 3, 2003 and must include a copy of your 2002 Federal Income Tax
Return.
