THOUGHTS OF THE LITURGY

This Sunday is the Thirteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time. We return to the "Ordinary Sundays." Ordinary does not mean routine and unimportant. It refers to the ordinal numbers, meaning first, second, third, fourth, etc. Ordinary Sundays means the numbered Sundays. In the scripture readings for this Sunday, we are given the message that God expects our prompt service. Elisha was to drop everything and follow Elijah. Jesus tells us we are not to put our hand to the plow and then look back. In ascetical (holiness) theology we learn that if we do not respond favorably to the inspirations that God gives us, we might not receive future inspirations. Let us respond, then, to quickly do the good that we are inspired to do.

Please welcome to our parish family, Stetson McCoy who was baptized on Sunday, June 17, 2001. He is the son of Timothy McCoy and Trishanna (Sims) McCoy.

Don’t forget that each family is asked to donate three pies or cakes for the dinner on Sunday, bring them to the church basement on Sunday morning. Fresh cucumbers are needed also. Needlework, crafts, jellies, jams and pickles are needed for the country store. Please remember, set up is on Saturday. Please give a little of your time to help. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Friday, July 6, is the first Friday of the month. Adoration will begin following the 8:00 a.m. Mass. Let us ponder the words of John Paul II: "The church and the world have a great need of eucharistic worship." Jesus waits for us in the sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration and in contemplation that is full of faith and ready to make reparation for the great faults and crimes of the world. May our adoration never cease. Please try to make time to attend the Benediction at 5:00 p.m.
