It is hard to believe that we have finished our study and faith-sharing program in preparation for the Eucharistic Congress. We are delighted with parish response to the fourth season of RENEW, and we are grateful for your leadership and for all you have done in bringing it to your parishioners. Approximately 20,000 adults have participated, and we continue to hear enthusiastic comments about the program.

We want to tell you about Season V of RENEW 2000. The United States Catholic Bishops have been emphasizing the social teaching of the Church because of the essential role social justice has in our faith tradition. For the fifth season of RENEW the Religious Education Department, in cooperation with the Archdiocesan Human Rights Office, is preparing a special study and faith sharing guide that will focus on the social teaching of the Catholic Church. This booklet will be used in fall 2001 in our parishes.

TO BETTER SERVE THE NEEDY OF OUR COMMUNITY THE FOOD PANTRY WILL BE OPEN ON MONDAY AND FRIDAY FROM 9:00AM UNTIL 11:00AM

Don’t forget, the Archdiocesan Development Appeal will be conducted this weekend. Everyone is asked to sign their pledge card, before or after Mass.

During the Month of May, recitation of the Rosary will be held before Mass. We will begin at 8:30am. Everyone is invited.

JUST A REMINDER, OUR PRAYER GROUP WILL MEET THURSDAY MAY 3 AT 7:00PM IN THE CHURCH HALL. EVERYONE WELCOME!

Recently, the Home and School Association purchased two projector units for the school to enhance visual instruction. We are thankful for their generosity and support.

St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School has recently been awarded grant funding from the Missouri State Council Knights of Columbus-Catholic Education Fund. A grant was written to replace several of the school’s religious statues. We thank the Council for their generous gift which will make this project possible.

On Sunday, April 22, nine of our parish children made their First Holy Communion during the 11:00am Mass. The First Communicants are: John Allen, Nicholas Boyer, Melissa Camp, Madison Rose Cook, Brittany Ford, James Graczyk Kimes, Kelly Lynn Stegall, Melissa Lynne Whitehead, Brett Willette.

Congratulations to our children, and a big thank you to their parents and teachers who helped prepare them for this special day. Please remember them in your prayers.

ATTENTION PILGRIMS:

We now have 24 pilgrims leaving on the 5th of November for a week in Rome. A tour bus will take us to and from the airport. If you have thought about going but haven’t yet decided you can make your reservation at the Rectory. We are looking for about ten more pilgrims. I hope that a few more will join us before long. If you have a passport, the latest day for signing up is August 1st. Just think! On day four of the tour we will visit three of the four major basilicas of Rome including St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran and St. Paul Outside the Walls. The day will end with a visit to the Appian Way and the Catacombs.

This weekend we will be electing a new Parish Council. They will serve for the next three years. I am sure that this new Parish Council will continue the fine line of Council’s that have assisted me in my years here at St. Joseph. Please take the time to vote for those people who will represent you as our parish moves forward into the new millennium.

Jesus came and took bread and gave it to them….(John 21:13)

Jesus’ ultimate gift of the Eucharist is a sacrament of love. It is the gift of life that fills us to overflowing and satisfies all our needs and hungers. The Eucharist is a sign of unity and a bond of charity. Programs and agencies supported by the Archdiocesan Development Appeal are very visible examples of how Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis are living out this unity. It is a responsibility and a privilege to sacrifice and share as Jesus taught us. Please be generous. Your gift to the Archdiocesan Development Appeal is a gift of love and of life, and "In Giving, we Receive."
