Our "Born of the Spirit" mission will be Monday thru Friday of next week. Mass will be at 6:00p.m. each evening. A Reconciliation Service will be held on Wednesday. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Mission.

Lent is once again upon us. We are called in this penitential season to take seriously the practices of prayer, fasting, almsgiving and other works of mercy, so as to draw closer to Christ.

As we begin Lent, we are also called to respond explicitly to Christ’s invitation to conversion of heart. Thus, I would encourage you to take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation at one of the following :

St. Joseph March 21st. 8:00PM
St. Joachim March 31st. 12:00 Noon
St. James April 3rd 7:00PM
Imm. Con. April 6th 7:00PM
April 7th. 11:00AM

SCHOOL NEWS

Please come and visit St. Joseph Elementary School. We will have Open House, Sunday, March 11th from 11:45a.m. to 12:45p.m.

NOTICE

Anyone who is thinking about the Pilgrimage to Rome has until the 5th of April to get their deposit into the rectory. May God bless you for your prayerful consideration.

The Daughters of Isabella will have their regular meeting March 12th at 7:00p.m. Our special guest will be State Regent, Pat Gebke of St. Clair, Mo. She will be here at 6:30p.m. to visit and audit our books. Refreshments will be served.

RENEW 2001

This, our third week of Renew 2001 will focus on "Offering Gifts To God". All we have is a gift from God. The Preparation of the Gifts reminds us of our obligation as followers of the Lord to share our gifts with those who have less. As Catholics, we are called to share with others and to share our time, talents, and treasure with the Church.

With perfect weather and delicious food the Fish Fry was a rousing success. Please keep patronizing and tell all your friends about our Fish Fry. This could be the best season ever. We still need desserts and if you are asked to work, don’t think about it, just role up your sleeves and say "YES". It could be God’s way of asking you to do something special for Lent.

Lent falls into two parts. In these three and a half weeks, the Gospel texts are taken form the Synoptics and the Old Testament readings are chosen accordingly. The message running throughout is a call to a life of Gospel conversion. The perisopes speak of beginning anew, of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving; of conversion; of mutual forgiveness; of hardness of heart; of love of enemies; of absolute claims of justice and love over ritual and cult; of the call to holiness, and so forth. Occasionally, what appears to be salvation history narrative is interspersed among these moral texts – a story like the call of Naaman or the workers in the vineyard, for example- but, in this context they are meant to be read as call to conversion rather than as referring to Christ or to the Easter mysteries.
