Prayer at Christmas

Lord, on this Christmas Day, in the midst of the joy of our celebrations, help us recall what is truly important about this day.In the midst of opening presents, help us remember the love that each gift represents. In the midst of Christmas dinner, help us remember that You are the source of life. In the midst of family gatherings, help us remember that You are the fullness of joy.And in the midst of Christmas Mass,   help us remember the supreme act of love, sacrifice, and humility that we celebrate on this Christmas day when your Son came as a helpless, unknown baby and grew to be the life and light of the world. Amen.

Christmas Joy

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests."

Father John and the Staff wish you and your loved ones a holy and joyous Christmas and holiday season.

Parish Mission

I would guess that our spiritual preparation for Christmas has been greatly enhanced by those who took advantage of our Parish Mission. I was inspired and I think those who attended were also. I hope the next time Father Lukefahr comes others will take advantage of his spiritual insights.

I would like to thank all of those wonderful people who donated their time in making the Mission such a big success i.e. the people who prepared the meals, the Knights who were on the welcoming committee, the Priests who gave of their time to hear confessions, and all the people who participated in the liturgical celebrations. I hope I haven’t missed anyone, but I am trying to thank each and every one of you. I am so proud to be your Pastor. Let us go forward in celebrating this joyful season.

ST. ANNE CHURCH
FRENCH VILLAGE, MO.

Second Sunday of Advent
                       Mission

Please give a warm St. Joseph/St. Anne welcome to Father Oscar Lukefahr, C.M. He is a Religious Priest of the Order of the "Congregation of the Mission" (most commonly called the Vincentians). St. Vincent De Paul founded the Vincentian Order. St. Vincent’s original work was to do parish missions in the French countryside. Father Lukefahr in continuing that work is bringing a Parish Mission "The Privilege of Being Catholic" the Parishes of St. Joseph/St. Anne.

Father Lukefahr will give the homily at all Masses this weekend. The subject is "Where is God?"

The first evening session will begin on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. with a talk on "Being Catholic is Knowing Jesus".

Monday the talk topic will be "The Bible and Catechism: Listening to Jesus". Tuesday evening is the Advent Penance Service. The topic of the talk will be "The Sacrament of Penance: Jesus Forgives". On Wednesday (Feast of the Immaculate Conception) the talk will be "The Four Levels of Happiness: Following Jesus with Mary and the Saints". The Mission will conclude on Thursday, December 9, 2010, with "Mass and Holy Communion: Christ’s Real Presence""With Celebration of Mass".

A morning session will be offered Monday through Thursday following the 8:00 a.m. Mass.

The Mission will consist of talks on Catholic beliefs and practices, explaining why we believe as we do.

It is meant for adults, teens and children. It encourages us to know Jesus better, appreciate our Faith more, and share it with others. A Parish Mission provides an opportunity for all people to deepen their Faith and come back to Church.

Everyone takes time for the truly important things like wonder, mystery, and prayer. People reconcile. Faith is awakened. Vocations are discovered. Families are healed. Lives are forever changed.

Mission

St. Joseph/St. Anne Parishes have joined together to bring this special focused spiritual experience to all. Please invite your family, friends and any inactive Catholics to attend. Offer to share a ride with someone. Give them the opportunity to share this joyful experience. A better Christmas gift cannot be found.

Please remember that childcare will be provided. A light supper is offered each evening especially for working couples.

Father will be available 15-20 minutes for an optional question and answer period each evening before the talks. People are invited to ask any questions about the Bible or Catholic teaching. We are making a sincere effort to help everyone make a good Mission!! Please remember to take home the bulletin so you will have the schedule. Should you have any questions, please call the Parish Office at 573-358-2112.

Joe Mondello will have a meeting for all the servers after Mass on Sunday, December 12th.

Immaculate Conception

On Wednesday, December 8th, we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. This day is a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at St. and at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anne Parish.

Bell Ringing

Celebrate Christmas

Go to Mass - At Christmas we celebrate God’s gift of Jesus to the world. Receiving Jesus in the Eucharist on Christmas is the moment toward which all of our preparations have brought us. Set up a Nativity Scene-Many families put out  most of the nativity scene before Christmas, but wait until December 25th to place Baby Jesus in the manger.Raise the Christmas tree and let lights shine –Lights on our houses and trees, in our churches,  and a white Christmas candle in the middle of  our Advent wreath announce the good news that we are now "children of light".Exchange gifts – Our gift giving echoes God’s  gift of His Son to us. Matthew’s narrative of  the Magi traveling far to bring their finest to the newborn king can give perspective and new direction to our gift-giving, as can a prayer said over our gifts for those who will receive them.Share a feast – Christians throughout history have used food as a way to express their joy  in the gift of Jesus. The feast we share with family, friends, and with the poor is a symbol of our communion as children of God.

Stewardship Awareness

"The Lord’s are the earth and its fullness; the world and those who dwell in it. For He founded it upon the sea and established it upon the rivers."

PSALM 24:1-2

How can we take credit for the good things in our lives when Psalm 24 reminds us that God created absolutely everything and everyone on earth? Surely we all have an obligation to return a portion of our good fortune to the Lord, for without Him nothing would be possible.

Welcome

Please welcome into our Faith community through Baptism Gabriella Alexa Grace Stegall, daughter of Matthew and Autumn Stegall. "May the Lord give His angels charge over you, to guide you in all your ways." Psalm 91:11
