CHRISTMAS

“FOR A CHILD IS BORN TO US, A SON IS GIVEN US.”

                                       (Isaiah  9:5)

Gazing upon the nativity scene we see one of our most compelling reasons to live as good stewards.  God not only gave us everything we have; He gave us His Only Son, who in turn gave us His life.  How do we say “thank you” for a gift like that?  Realizing the tremendous depth of God’s generosity to us is a pivotal insight that should change the entire way we live our life.  It calls us to make stewardship a way of life.

This weekend we are honored to have Greg Hitschler, a college seminarian, in his second year at Kenrick Seminary. Some facts about Greg. He will speak to us about his experiences at Kenrick in order to spur us to be generous for the special second collection on Christmas Day.This is a special collection for the Seminary throughout the Diocese. Please welcome him!!

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

The Christmas Program, A Miracle at Midnight, is scheduled for Monday, December 19 at 7:00p.m. in Kreft Auditorium. The parish community is cordially invited to attend. If night-time driving is a problem, please feel free to attend the dress rehearsal at 10:00a.m. on Monday, December 19 in Kreft Auditorium.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

My warmest greetings and prayerful wishes for a blessed Christmas to you and your family. On Christmas Day, we greet the Redeemer who came to us as a child in the humble stable in Bethleham. This Child is the promise of God, He is the One who comes in peace, the one who lights the world, and gives us sure hope.

I write briefly about another gift we have received through Christ – our seminarians. Each of their lives and their response to the call to the priesthood of Jesus Christ is a great gift to us. They are part of God’s promise which took flesh two thousand years ago in Bethleham in the person of Jesus Christ.

For generations, each year at Christmas, the people of the Archdiocese have made a special gift to support our seminarians at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, as a natural expression of their Catholic faith. Please be generous in responding to the Christmas Day collection for the support of our seminarians.  Also, I ask you to pray for them and for our priests.  They are truly Christ with us.  They are a sign to us of a future full of hope.

Asking God’s blessing upon you and your homes, I remain

Yours devotedly in Christ,

(Most Rev.) Raymond L. Burke

Archbishop of St. Louis
