RETREAT FOR MEN

The men in the Parish are invited to their ANNUAL RETREAT at White House Retreat starting November 11th.   For reservations call Denis Gosling at 358-5621.  A retreat once a year is a vital necessity these days.

This Monday, November 1st. is the Feast of All Saints.  The New Testament uses the word “saint” for anyone who has been baptized.  Presumably, if we realized the implications of our Baptism, we would strive for holiness of life.  Through Baptism, we became children of God, heirs of heaven, temples of God’s Spirit.  If we persevere in God’s grace, then we shall enter his glory

All Souls Day is a day to remember family and friends who have passed. It is also a time to renew their membership in the Purgatorial Society.  An envelope is in your packet.  Please list the names of those you would like remembered when Mass is celebrated throughout the year for the Purgatorial Society.

The Country Store has cleaned house and we have several baskets and wreaths.  It would be appreciated if members of the parish would take a basket/wreath home and decorate it to be used by the Country Store at the picnic.  They will be available after Mass today and again next Sunday in the church basement.  There will also be a sign up sheet so we will be able to know how many to expect for the picnic.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  The Ham and Turkey Shoot was a huge success. GROSS RECEIPTS $4,00180, EXPENSES $1,956.58, NET PROFIT $2,045.22.

The Merchandise Madness Sale is just around the corner.  Business will start at 6:00a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6th.Items can be dropped off Friday, Nov. 5th after 8:00a.m.If you need someone to pick up the items please call Janet Mecey at 358-0684 or Becky Kelly, at 358-3141.

MATTHEW 5-7:
HOW TO BE HAPPY

During this second week of our Scripture study series, we consider the minimalist.  The minimalist is the person who tries to just get by, to do no more that the minimum required by law.  Jesus challenges this way of thinking.  He calls us to do a lot more than the minimum if we are to be his followers.  In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us how we are to relate to friends, to strangers, and human relationships.  The follower of Jesus does not ask, “What is the minimum I have to do?” His follower asks instead, “What is it that He wants me to do?”

A heart filled thank you to all the volunteers who worked on the pictorial directory and the Stewardship Program.  I will keep you in my prayers and may God bless you for all the work you do for Him.

                                              Father John

The next St. Vincent de Paul meeting will be on the first Tuesday of November at 7:00p.m. in the meeting room.

We will begin our winter schedule on Saturday, November 6th.  MASS will be at 4:00p.m.  Please mark your calendars.

“It was from Heaven that I received these; for the sake of his laws I disdain them; from him I hope to receive them again.”

2 MACCABEES 7:11

We are reminded in Maccabees that everything we have is a gift from God.  We are to return those gifts to God so that ultimately we may have the greatest of gifts in our eternal reward.
