Feast of All Souls

Next Sunday is the Feast of All Souls. This is the day that you can renew your loved ones membership in the Purgatorial Society. This November feast vividly reminds us of the rich reality known as the Communion of Saints. Just as we do that for each other when we are alive, we continue that bond and concern for each other even beyond death. Your loved ones will be remembered every time the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated for the Purgatorial Society. Please use the Welcome envelopes that are provided for you in the pews.

Please support our local advertisers who make this bulletin possible.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

An estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States during 2008. An estimated 40,480 women will die from breast cancer. Breast cancer is the second deadliest cancer in women (behind lung cancer) Early detection is the best protection!

You can help to find a cure for this life threatening disease; when shopping, if you see anything with the pink breast cancer ribbon on it, a portion of the proceeds will be donation to the City of Hope for Breast Cancer Research Fund.

Please do your part to help women around the world find a cure!

Month of Mary

" When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting the infant leapt in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, Most Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." October is the month of Mary. Have you said your rosary today? We as Catholics need to pray for peace and unity through out the world. You can join us on Thursday mornings after the 8:00 am mass or before Saturday evening mass. Please use these opportunities for prayer.

Holy Land

Father John will be visiting the Holy Land as part of his 40th anniversary celebration. You are invited to join him. We will leave on April 2, 2009 and return on April 13, 2009. We will visit the sites that the Bible speaks of on Holy Week. The cost is $3,600 per person, it is more than usual but there is a $500 surtax and everything is more expensive than usual. If you are interested please call the rectory at 358-2112. We need twenty people to make this pilgrimage possible. The next meeting is November 16th at 1:00 PM

Liturgical Changes

I recently received a communication from the chancery concerning the bishops’ changes to our liturgical wording. In the next few weeks I will publish the suggested changes one at a time. We’ll ease into this as gently as possible. It is what is being asked of us and as your pastor I encourage you to comply.

Number 3:

At the Consecration, the priest will refer to Christ’s blood which is "poured out for you and for many"—an accurate translation of pro multis- rather than "for all" in the current translation.

Daughters of Isabella

The Daughters of Isabella will hold a semiannual Rummage Sale on Saturday, November 1st from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the church basement. All donations are accepted, no matter how large or small. So, clean out your unwanted "stuff" and bring it down to the basement on Friday, October 31. If you need pick up, call Claudine at 358-7516.

Set up for the sale will start at noon on Friday, October 31. Help would be greatly appreciated. Extra help is also needed at 2:00 to pack up items.

OPEN MEETING- We will have a special open meeting on November 10, starting with a soup and salad dinner at 6:00 p.m. All members should invite a guest to introduce to our organization. Please, make an extra effort to attend. We need ALL OF YOU for support.

Our yearly Christmas Party will be on Monday, December 8th in the church basement. Mark your calendar. More information will be provided at a later date.
