This weekend we will host Rev. Richard Tillman who will speak with
us about the work being done by the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging. CFCA is a
lay Catholic organization that has served more than 475,000 children, youth and elderly in
25 developing countries since 1981 -empowering them to make more choices in their lives,
live with dignity and reach their potential. CFCAs unique sponsorship is highly
personalized. It matches a child, youth or aging person at a project overseas with a
sponsor in the U.S. who cares about and encourages them. For about a dollar a day, a
sponsor helps to provide much-needed nourishing food, medical and dental care, the chance
for a child to go to school, livelihood programs for families and much more. Inserts are
enclosed in the bulletin. Thank you.
St. Vincent De Paul
There will be a meeting of SVDP on Friday
September 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the meeting room. SVDP would like to thank all who
have supported us so generously.
Thank You
Thank you for your generosity and support of our Building Fund. As
a result, we have been able to completely replace all of the louvers in the bell tower.
Murphy Construction has done an outstanding job. In addition, St. John the Baptist has
been lovingly restored to his original glory by Michele of Restorations Plus. Thank you
for your generosity and continued support.
Back to School Prayer
God of all wisdom,
You formed humankind in your own likeness and gave us an intellect
to help us know You, Our Creator, and the world You made. As we begin this new academic
year, enlighten the minds of our students with the inquisitiveness that seeks ever greater
knowledge and understanding. Give teachers and professors the wisdom needed to guide the
intellectual endeavors of those entrusted to them.Help all who fund and support education
to recognize the value of discovering more about the world You have created and so draw
ever closer to You, our Maker.
Amen.
Festival 2009
September 20, 2009
The picnic is just around the corner and the Country
Store will open its doors this year with a few changes. We will have a Silent Auction and
raffle off a grocery cart full of food. Donations of homemade jams, jellies, and breads;
flowers; fresh vegetables; quilts; fancy work, etc. will be much appreciated. We will also
be making small and large size baskets of shampoos, lotions, personal care items, kitchen
items, picnic items, etc. for sale. If you can donate any of these items and/or small or
laundry size baskets, please call Janet Mecey at 358-0684 or Ruth Hunt at 358-3733.
Our Festival 2009 is shaping up to be our most exciting picnic
ever! Mary Barber and Jean Jennings are organizing their bingo/pull tab tent. Our world
famous chefs are gathering their recipes and our grill cooks are ordering their supplies.
Specialty foods are being secretly prepared in Fathers kitchen. If you think you can
ride, bring that cowboy hat and prove it. Tell your friends, relatives and neighbors that
we will feature the HOTTEST Mechanical Bull Ride on earth. Our rodeo booth will have
lights, cameras and action for those brave enough to ride "The Bull". Pictures
ala Matthew will be available of your rodeo highlights.
St. Joachim Festival
St. Joachim Parish (Old Mines) will hold its annual Fall Festival
on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Fried Chicken and Roast Beef dinners will be served in the
air-conditioned school hall from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They will have an outdoor
Hamburger Stand, Roasted Corn on the Cob, Live Music, Bingo, Raffles, Country Store,
Childrens Games, along with activities for all ages. St. Joachim is located on
