VOTE AUGUST 6, 2002

"America first proclaimed its independence on the basis of self-evident moral truths. America will remain a beacon of freedom for the world as long as it stands by these moral truths which are the very heart of its historical experience. And so America: If you want peace, work for justice. If you want justice, defend life. If you want life, embrace the truth – the truth revealed by God." (Pope John Paul II; Homily for Evening Prayer; Pastoral Visit to St. Louis; January 27, 1999)

Vote on Tuesday, August 6, and in casting your vote ask yourself: "What would Jesus do?"

Get out your pen and mark your calendars for August 24th, 2002. This is the day the Cathedral Parish celebrates the feast of St. Louis. The festivities begin with the Volkswalk at 8:00a.m. with street dancing ending at 9:30a.m. The celebration includes a children’s area, face painting, artisan booths, Cathedralk and organ tours, live music with Jim Dandy’s Dixieland Band and the Ambassador’s of Swing. Watch Bob Kramers Marionettes, the Silent Auction, Raffle and the sale of pull-tabs. Arrive on an empty stomach because there will be a French Café and Patisserie starting with breakfast. The Medieval grill includes a pig roast, leg of lamb, link sausages and plenty more. Lemonade, ice cream and a bar to keep your palate quenched. Mass will be at 5:00p.m.- Msgr. Vernon Gardin – Celebrant. We look forward to seeing you!

The life of a priest in the Latin America Apostolate shares many of the same responsibilities that shape the life of a priest in a local parish. There are baptisms, funerals, weddings and various parish organizations that reflect the devotion of the parish community.

The differences are found in the parish’s response to the social problems caused by poverty. Major programs address the problem of hunger. The parish also sponsors a medical clinic, recognized as one of the finest clinics in LaPaz, Bolivia.

Once again, we come to you asking for your help. Your cooperation is needed if we are to continue the work of the Latin America Apostolate.

We will have a second collection today. Please be generous.

As we go about our activities this week, let us remember in our daily prayers the sick and deceased members of St. Anne and St. Joseph Parish. If you or a loved one would like to be put on the prayer list, please call the Rectory at 358-2112. A list is also provided in the back of Church. You may write in a name and they will be remembered at daily Mass. If you have called in and a name has not been mentioned, please forgive us. Call again and jog our memory.

St. Vincent DePaul meeting will not be held in the month of August. Next meeting in September.

A sincere "thank you" from Fr. John Miles, CR to St. Anne and St. Joseph parishioners for their generosity in reaching out to help "Food For The Poor" A total of $1,735.00 was received for this great ministry. Fr. Miles was especially impressed with the warmth and friendliness of our parishioners. He asked for our continued prayer
