For more than 40 years, priests from the Archdiocese of St. Louis have gone to Bolivia in order to work among a people where the Church is not present or, if present, is not firmly rooted.

The Apostles left the Church in Jerusalem with Christ’s commandment, "Go teach all nations!" ringing in their ears. The early Church collected funds in order that the missionary activity of this young Church might continue.

Our Catholic Community will continue this practice with a second collection to be taken up the week end of August 2-3. Envelopes for this collection are in your packets and extras are available at the entrances. Please be generous.

NOTA BENE

" PleaseTake Notice"

The Office of Worship has received many requests from parishes for a concise description of the changes in the new General Instruction of Roman Missal.

Deacon Ron outlined these in his homily and this week let us revisit another one.

LECTOR:

The liturgy of the word must be celebrated in such a way as to promote meditation. For this reason, any kind of haste with impeded recollection must be clearly avoided. Brief moments of silence are appropriate during the liturgy. Such moments should be suitable for the gathered assembly, in which the Word of God is taken in the heart by fostering of the Holy Spirit, and its response is prepared through prayer. Such moments of silence are opportunely observed after the first and second reading, and then, at the completion of the homily.

"WHY HASN’T GOD ANSWERED BY PRAYER?"

Ever pray really hard for something and get only silence in return? It probably felt like God didn’t answer.

While there’s no magic formula to always get what we want, the Bible tells us that if we trust God, we’ll always get what we need and much of what we want, too (Matthew 6:25-33). But we have to do our part to get results.

Strengthen your friendship with God. "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you" (John 15:7). God wants our friendship all the time, not just when we want something. Daily prayer is key to building that friendship.

Come clean. Unconfessed sin creates static in the connection to God. The sacrament of Confession helps clear the line. In Psalm 32, David says that his life was miserable when he avoided responsibility for his sin. As soon as he confessed it, God answered his prayers.

Look for it. God’s answer may not be what you were looking for but may even better. Keep watch for the unexpected.

Don’t give up. Jesus promised, "whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24) Don’t forget, God has a better sense of timing that we do. He’ll pick the right moment.

WHAT IS ADORATION?

Outside of the Mass, we can also adore Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist, every time we visit his sacramental presence reserved in the tabernacle or visibly displayed in a monstrance.

Adoration is an attitude

"To adore God is to acknowledge him as God, as the Creator and Savior, the Lord and Master of everything that exists…to Acknowledge…the ‘nothingness of the "Creature’ who would not exist but for God."

Adoration is prayer

"Lifting up the mind toward God is an expression of our adoration of God: prayer of praise and thanksgiving, intercession and petition.

On Friday, August 1st the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed from 8:30a.m.til Benediction which will begin at 5:00p.m. The Blessed Sacrament when exposed is never to be left alone. Stop by and enjoy a rest from you hectic day. Visit with God for only thirty minutes and feel refreshed. He patiently awaits your coming.
