Deacon Candidate: Don Schmitt Canon 1029 – After all circumstances have been taken into account in the prudent judgement of the proper bishop or the competent major superior, only those should be promoted to orders who have an integral faith, are motivated by a right intention, possess the required knowledge, and enjoy a good reputation, good morals, and proven virtues, and other physical and psychological qualities which are appropriate to the order to be received.

That’s what Canon Law says about one who petitions the Archbishop to be ordained a Deacon. Canon 1029 makes it clear that becoming a Deacon is not fulfilling requirements, it is about a integrated lifestyle of love for Jesus Christ and of service to the Church.

On Saturday, June 7, 2003, one of our parishioners, Mr. Don Schmitt will be ordained for service to the Archdiocese of St. Louis, through prayer and imposition of hands, by Archbishop Justin Rigali.

Following the age-old custom of the Church, as maintained by Canon Law (canon 1051, paragraph 2), it is my privilege to announce publicly that Don Schmitt is a candidate for the major order of Sacred Diaconate, to be conferred on June 7, 2003 at 10:00a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica. Anyone who knows any reason why this candidate should not be ordained is bound to disclose this immediately.

Please join me in prayer for Don Schmitt and for each of the diaconate candidates, that these times of immediate preparation for ordination will be times of extra-ordinary grace and abiding peace

Father John

LITURGY CHANGES

Recently, Archbishop Rigali announced in the St. Louis Review that our present lectionary, the book in which is found the readings for Mass, is undergoing a review. As part of this review Archbishop Rigali is encouraging written comments from you to be gathered and documented by the Office of Worship based on the following questions: "What elements of the Lectionary for Mass have been found most helpful?" and "What elements of the Lectionary for Mass have been found problematic?" Concerning the latter question, the comments should provide specific examples to illustrate the concern. Please direct your comments to the Office of Worship. Our fax number is 314-792-7239, and our address is :20 Archbishop May Drive, St. Louis, Mo. 63119. All comments must be received in writing by the end of May. Thank you for your reflection on this matter.

We have some very special needs for this year’s Parish Festival on June 22.

Wanted- Someone to run the Parcel Post for this year’s picnic. No special skills needed but if you have ever been a part of the Parcel Post tent in the past we can use you this year. Please contact Pat AuBuchon or the church office.
