Catholic Home Missions

I’d like to say a word about next week’s second collection, The Catholic Home Missions Appeal. This appeal supports missions here in the United States. There are many places in America, Appalachia, the Deep South, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountain states, where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith.

Last year, Home Missions gave more than $3 million to the dioceses along the Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Please God, there will be no repetition of these disasters. But Catholic parishes in rural America still struggle to offer Mass, the sacraments, and religious education. Some dioceses are terribly short of priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes. Please give generously to assist fellow Catholics in America.

Confirmation Ceremony

St. Joseph’s Confirmation Class of 2007 will be confirmed on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 7:30pm. The Most Reverend Robert J. Hermann, V.G., Auxiliary Bishop of the St. Louis Archdiocese, will be the celebrant. The parish is invited to attend.

Candidates for the Sacrament of Confirmation come to receive their commission of service, have come to join in prayer and commitment to serve neighbors, and bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus by serving as Jesus did.

The nine candidates are Collin Black, Garrett DeGonia, Kelly Krus, Ryan Krus, Bryce McGuire, Charlyn Ortmann, Anne Pace, Jordyn Weiss, and Brett Willette. We offer our prayers and best wishes to St. Joseph’s Confirmation Class of 2007.

Mother’s Day Cards

Mother’s Day is May 13th. What are you planning to do for your mother? Birthright of Hillsboro is holding their Mother’s Day Card fundraising project again this year. Consider honoring your mother or other special women in your life while supporting Birthright at the same time. Birthright offers free, confidential help in our community and is in need of funds to continue the work of saving unborn lives and easing the burdens of those faced with untimely pregnancy. Mother’s Day Cards can be picked up in the back of church. A table has been set up for your convenience. A letter of explanation and an envelope for sending your donation to Birthright of Hillsboro is included with each card. Please do not leave your monetary donation at the church.

Annual Catholic Appeal

Charity, as Pope Benedict explains in his encyclical, God is Love, is the responsibility of each individual. He goes on to say that "As a community, the Church must practice love."

The Annual Catholic Appeal is the one time each year that we unite as the entire Catholic community to share our gifts with others – to serve others. The Annual Catholic Appeal gives everyone in the community the opportunity to know who we are as Catholics. The words of Jesus in the Gospel for this Fifth Sunday of Easter are crystal clear - "This is how all will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

Festival 2007

LISTEN UP! SPREAD THE WORD! GET HAPPY! Our Festival 2007 is two weeks away. We need your help! Workers are still needed. Calls will be made to fill in the vacancies. Please help out if you can. Also, don’t forget to invite your friends, family etc. from other areas to come and enjoy our delicious dinner. The more the better!! Please sell your tickets for the Big Raffle. More tickets are available. Bingo is always fun, and we will have sandwiches for those who cannot leave their Bingo cards. Most of all we need two desserts from each family. Our homemade desserts complete our already good, good food. We thank you for your help in making this festival the best ever! GO FESTIVAL 2007!!!
