SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Why were there so many miracles in the early years of the Church? The odds against Christianity taking hold in Palestine and the Roman Empire were enormous. Maybe this is why God let so many miracles happen—to attract favorable attention to this new religion. Today, the first reading and the Gospel reading deal with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit came to us quietly when we were confirmed. We received a guarantee that whenever in life we need inspiration and spiritual strength, the Holy Spirit will provide it for us.

FINAL WEEK FOR 2002 ADA

Please remember that this is the final weekend to sign your 2002 Archdiocesan Development Appeal pledge cards. The pledge cards will be in the school. Someone will be available to assist you and answer any questions. Since this is the first Sunday of the month, coffee and donuts will be served at school instead of the church hall. Everyone is welcome to stop at the school for refreshments.

FEAST OF THE ASCENSION

Just a reminder that the Feast of the Ascension will be celebrated on Sunday, May 12th

not on Thursday, May 9th. The decision was made and went into effect last year when the Bishops of Missouri decided to transfer the Solemnity of the Ascension from Thursday to the following Sunday. The same principle will be followed in the coming years. The 7th Sunday of Easter will be replaced with the Solemnity of the Ascension.

60TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Congratulations to William and Edna Forshee who will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on May 9th. William and Edna were married at St. Joseph Church in Farmington, Missouri, on May 9, 1942 by Fr. L. Dierker. William and Edna had 4 children. Let us congratulate them as they renew their wedding vows at the 10:00 a.m. Mass this weekend.

A MILLION ROSARIES FOR LIFE

On Saturday, May 11th, at 8:00 a.m. please join the nationwide prayer initiative, A Million Rosaries for Life. Members of the Archdiocesan Pro-Life Network will lead the rosary on WRYT, 1080 AM radio at 8:00 a.m. Please remember to pray for the unborn that they may have life.

When bad things happen consider this: Jesus knows just how you feel. Without cause, he was beaten, tortured, shamed, and murdered. He didn’t deserve any of it. Ask Jesus to help make your sufferings easier to bear.
