FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

The disciples want to know the way. So Jesus points to himself. "I am the way, the truth and the life," he tells them. For all who seek the road to God, he is the only way. The way of giving, not receiving is the way he has taught us to live. For all who seek the truth which comes from God, he is the only truth. By dying to ourselves, we live, just like him who is the "firstborn of many brothers. For all who seek life, he is the life. Only in Christ can I find meaning, only in him can I know happiness, only in him can I learn to cherish the infinitely wonderful gift of life from conception until he calls me home to himself.

Funds contributed through the Archdiocesan Development Appeal support hundreds of educational, pastoral and service programs throughout the archdiocese. Through these efforts, hundred of thousands of people find their way to Jesus Christ. These good works are made possible with your participation in this annual appeal.

Please make a generous pledge and help others see the way to Our Lord. Pledge cards are available downstairs this weekend. Please remember to sign your cards. Cards should not be taken home.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!

June 2nd is quickly approaching and before you know it, Picnic day will be here. Following are several projects where your help is needed:

SATURDAY, JUNE 1: Workers are needed to help set up for the picnic. Arrival time will be announced later. Also, volunteers are needed to prepare the vegetables for the dinner.

SUNDAY, JUNE 2: Men, women and young ladies are needed to serve and work the tables. Young men are needed to take care of the trash.

Please remember that each family is asked to donate three cakes or three pies for the dinner as well as one quilt for the bingo. If can give a few minutes of your time to help, please call Ruth Basler at 358-2775 after 7:00 p.m. Keep in mind, that if everyone volunteers some of their time, all the workers will be able to enjoy the picnic.

Effective Sunday, May 5, the rosary will be said each week at 8:00 a.m. before Mass.

RUMMAGE SALE

The K of C Ladies Auxiliary Council 1088 is holding a rummage sale on Saturday, May 4th at the K of C Hall on Jennings Road, Park Hills. Hours are 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Part of the proceeds will go to the "Relay for Life Cancer Walk," that will be held later in this year at Mineral Area College. Please show your support.

MAY THE MONTH OF MARY

In May, we honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. We also commemorate the Visitation when the Blessed Mother visited her cousin Elizabeth to share her joy at being favored by God.

On Friday, May 3, the school children will participate in the May crowning at the 8:00 a.m. Mass. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend Mass this morning. Please remember to pray the rosary.

WHY DO CATHOLICS DO THAT?

"WHY DO CATHOLICS GIVE THE SIGN OF PEACE DURING MASS?"

The first words Jesus said to his apostles after his Resurrection were, "Peace be with you" (John 20:21). After that their fear disappeared. By offering each other the Sign of Peace at Mass, we share that peace with the whole body of Christ.

Jesus also told us to reconcile with one another before approaching the altar of God (Matthew 5:23). Thus the Sign of Peace is a gesture of reconciliation with those around us before coming to the altar to receive Holy Communion.

ADORATION AND BENEDICTION

Friday, May 3 is the first Friday of the month. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 8:30 a.m. Benediction will be at 5:00 p.m. It is requested that someone be present at all times during the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Please take time for the Lord.
