FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

On this Sunday, April 21st, the Church celebrates the Fourth Sunday of Easter. It is also known as Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Coinciding with these celebrations is the Third Continental Congress on vocations to the Ordained Ministry and consecrated Life in North America. The Congress will be held in Montreal, Canada. The theme of the Congress is –God’s Gift, Given for God’s People.

On this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Church invites us to unite our prayers for the increase of and efforts in promoting vocations to the priesthood, the permanent diaconate and the consecrated life. Please continue to pray for vocations.

ARCHDIOCESAN DEVELOPMENT APPEAL

Today is the first ADA Sunday for the 223 parishes throughout the entire Archdiocese of St. Louis. The Archdiocesan Development Appeal provides a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our strength in solidarity. Together, we unite with all Catholics throughout the Archdiocese in a common mission of service.

This weekend we are privileged to have a guest speaker for the ADA. Ms. Joyce Politte from Catholic Education will share with us her enthusiasm for this most worthwhile campaign for the Archdiocese.

Pledge cards are available after all the Masses this weekend. If you are not prepared to sign your card this week you may do so next weekend. The cards must be signed regardless if you intend to pledge or not. Also, please remember that the pledge cards must remain at church.

TUESDAY, APRIL 23: Parish Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the church hall.

Dear Friends in Christ,

The Catholic Church in the United States is like a bright mosaic made up of piece of unequal size. We are a community that is rich and poor, urban and rural, powerful and fragile. Our faith binds us together but so do the bonds of charity.

In our country, approximately 82 diocese simply are unable to provide most basic pastoral ministries for their people without outside funding. All of these poor U.S. Diocese have major needs for parish support, evangelization, religious education, campus ministry, seminary training, ethnic ministries and youth and lay ministry programs.

On the weekend of April 27-28 the collection for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal will be taken up throughout the Archdiocese, and I encourage you to be generous to this appeal which supports people in so many poor, remote and rural parts of the United States.

I am deeply grateful for this support.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Justin Rigali
Archbishop of St. Louis

The school received a grant from the Archdiocese to install a new environmental system that involves, both heating and cooling. We no longer have to rely on the gas furnace nor the 8 new window units donated last year so we have a great deal for you. We have 8 Whirlpool with a brand name of Cosley. They are 18 tons AC unit, which required 220 hook-up that retailed last year at Walmart for $438.00. We would like to get at least $300.00 per unit. Please call the rectory to get yours. This is a first come first serve basis. You do not have to be a parishioner to purchase one.

REMINDER

Please remember that all decorations must be removed from gravesites in St. Joseph Cemetery so the cemetery maintenance crew can begin Spring clean up. For anyone who is not familiar with the general rule it is as follows:

GENERAL RULE

Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day, decorations may be placed on graves and left there for a period of 1 week after the holiday after which time the decorations must be removed so the maintenance crew can keep the grass mowed and trimmed. Any decorations left on the gravesites will be disposed of. You may place decorations on the monument or the base of the monument as long as they don’t interfere with the grave maintenance. Please remember that no glass or metal containers are allowed on the grounds.
