Catholic Home
Missions Appeal

Next Sunday, our parish will be taking up a collection for the Catholic Home Missions Appeal. This appeal supports missions here in the United Sates.

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal offers Catholics across our country a wonderful opportunity to help fellow Catholics practice their faith in such rugged areas as Alaska, Appalachia, the Deep South, the Rocky Mountain states, the Southwest, Puerto Rico, and island diocese in the Pacific and Caribbean.

This Appeal is a practical way for our parish to share its faith and resources with the mission Church here at home. Over 95 cents of every dollar donated to the Appeal goes directly to the missions to keep church doors open, to support pastors in their priestly ministry, and to provide basic pastoral services like religious education for children.

Please give generously to assist fellow Catholics here in America. It’s one practical way our parish community can be good stewards of God’s gifts and make a difference.

Annual Catholic Appeal - 2008

Jesus promises in today’s Gospel to "prepare a place" for us with him in heaven. He also gives us the Church to guide us to our eternal dwelling. Each of us, rooted in Baptism, has a role to play in the outreach of the Church – serving others. Please support those who will benefit from the 2008 Annual Catholic Appeal – This is Our Faith!

His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI United States Papal Visit

Father John, several Archdiocesan Priests, our parishioners (Frank & Karen Basden) many religious and lay parishioners have traveled to Washington, D.C. and New York to welcome Pope Benedict XVI on his first visit to the United States.

While in the United States, Pope Benedict XVI will have a busy schedule. On Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 the Pope will celebrate his 81st birthday and meet with President Bush and the First Lady. On Thursday, April 17, 2008 he will offer Mass at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. On Saturday, April 19, 2008 His Holiness will pass a mile stone and celebrate the third anniversary of his papacy.

On Sunday, April 20th, the Holy Father will visit Ground Zero, the site of the attack at the World Trade Center and at 2:30pm he will celebrate a solemn pontifical Mass at Yankee Stadium. It has been estimated that there will be approximately 60,000 Catholics attending the Mass. Father John and 550 other priests will distribute the Eucharist in Yankee Stadium.

Father John was happy to receive an invitation to concelebrate both Masses with the Holy Father.

In his absence we will have two (2) visiting Priests. Father Vic Karl will celebrate Mass on Saturday, April 19th at 5:00 p.m. Father David Polek, CSR, will celebrate all three (3) Masses on Sunday, April 20th. Please give a warm St. Joseph/St. Anne welcome to our visiting Priests.

Please pray for the safe return of the Holy Father to Rome. Protect those who traveled to be with him on his visit to the United States and bring them home safely.
