Dear Friend,

Easter—the holiest of holydays.  The Lord has risen!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  I think I can safely say that all of us have heard the Easter story many, many times.  And, yet, each time the story is repeated, Christ’s passing through suffering and death to resurrection should transform us again and again.  It was Jesus who took our sins and torments, our pains and disappointments, our anger and our disillusionments and infused them with His love and hope, and most of all, with the promise of eternal life.

Christ triumphed over the very things that seemed to triumph over Him, and in Him we can do the same.  Our lives are also lives of dying and rising.  Because of Christ’s victory over death, we become changed persons, just like the initial followers of Jesus became changed persons.  Our discouragement is replaced by hope, our weakness and fear is replaced by strength and courage, our pride and selfishness dies in order to bring life to others through our service and love.   His act of redemption should make us tremble every time we hear about it, every time we read about it, every time we think about it!

Jesus brought hope to a world of despair.  He brought love to a world of hate.  He took evil’s worst weapon, which was death, and conquered it by His victory of the Cross.  He promised that He would rise from the dead.  And, He kept His promise.

God the Father loves us so much that He gave His only Son so that we may find our way home to Him.  Jesus’ death was not the end for Him and it is not the end for us.  Death is the beginning.  Death is the door to heaven and Christ waits for us on the other side of it.  And, when we knock, He will open the door and we will be embraced in His loving arms and live with Him forever in Paradise.

This Easter may you and your family experience in new and unforgettable ways the peace, joy, love, and hope which only He, the Risen One, can give.  I am remembering each of you in my Easter Masses and prayers, and ask that you remember me in yours.

Faithfully in Christ,

Reverend John H. Schneider, Pastor
