SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

They were hiding in the upper room for fear of those who had killed Jesus. The Disciples were paralyzed with fear and hiding in the dark. Fear and darkness keep us from seeing things as they really are. Such is the case of a woman contemplating aborting her child. She’s paralyzed with fear and sees nothing ahead but darkness. But then Jesus walks into the room, as if out of nowhere, and says, "Peace be with you." It is our job as followers of the Lord to walk into every room where the powers of darkness seek to prey on the fearful and speak Christ’s words: "Peace be with you." For once that peace rests in the heart of every mother, no child will ever be endangered again.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

First Holy Communion will take place during the 10:00 a.m. Mass this morning. Please continue to pray for these new seeds of our faith who will be the future leaders of our parish.

PICNIC UPDATE

Time is quickly approaching for this year’s Parish Picnic which will be held on Sunday, June 2. Please remember to sell your raffle tickets. Extra tickets are available in the back of church.

Quilts are still needed for the Bingo. Each family is asked to donate one quilt. If you are unable to quilt, you can call Ruth Basler (358-2775) and she will be able to direct you to someone who for a reasonable cost can supply you with a handmade quilt.

THANK YOU

A big thank you to Jenny Akins, Becky O’Neill, Grace Ketchum and Deacon Ron, for their heroic service in the journey of faith of those catechumen who received the sacraments last Saturday evening. Delana Maria Nelms, Linda Abbott, Brian James Abbott, Christopher Lynn Hill, Julie Ellen Hill, Justin Daniel Rogers and Denis Gosling. Please remember them in your prayers.

PRE CANA CLASSES

St. Joseph Church will host a Pre Cans Class on Saturday, April 13, 2002 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Deacon Ron and June will be the presenters. It is to late to sign up for this conference but if you plan to be married in the near future, it would be good to register to attend one so close to home.

DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA

The Daughters of Isabella invites everyone to their Bake Sale that will be held after all the Masses this weekend. Please come to the church hall and enjoy some fresh baked goodies. Give yourself a special treat and help support the organization.

The next D of I Meeting will be held on Monday, April 8th at 7:00 p.m. Birthday cake will be served. All members are encouraged to attend.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Please remember to pray for all the sick. Anges Vargo, Charles Chandler, Alma Boehle, Sarah Bradey and Hollis Finley.

During this Easter season we are reminded of the mystery of our Baptism. In this new life in Christ we discover the dignity, greatness and value of each person. The Archdiocesan Development appeal (ADA) is one way you can show your love for one another by providing valuable assistance to those in need. Please give generously to the 2002 Appeal.

ST. JOSEPH PARISH FESTIVAL

The date for St. Joseph Parish Festival is Sunday, June 23, 2002. You will be receiving your raffle tickets soon. If extra raffle tickets are needed you may contact Ted Mueller (358-4148), Monkey Pratte (358-2555), Karen Spruell (636-586-3727) or you may pick tickets up at the rectory. Each family is encouraged to sell as many as possible.

Watch for the billboard signs on highway 67. Six signs will be put into place the first of May advertising this year’s festival. Let’s all join together to make this parish fundraiser the best ever.

CHURCH TRIALS

There is no question about it, our Church is under attack; the spiritual enemy has found a human weakness and is doing everything possible to weaken the Church. The noble majority is being tainted by the sins of the few. Please pray daily for all our priests.

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Lord Jesus, you have chosen your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim your word and to act in your name. For so great a gift to your Church, we give you praise and thanksgiving. We ask you to fill them with the fire of your love, that their ministry may reveal your presence in the Church. Since they are earthen vessels, we pray that your power shine through their weakness. In their afflictions, let them never be crushed; in their doubts, never despair; in temptation, never be destroyed; in persecution, never abandoned. Inspire them through prayer to live each day the mystery of your dying and rising. In times of weakness send them your Spirit, and help them to praise your heavenly Father. By the same Holy Spirit, put your word on their lips and your love in their hearts, to bring good news to the poor and healing to the broken hearted. And may the gift of Mary, your Mother, be your gift to every priest. Grant that she, who formed you in her human image, may form them in your
