The word Church is a translation of two biblical terms: the Hebrew word qahal, and the Greek word ekklesia meaning a "gathering of people or community." The Church was born from the total self-giving of Jesus for our salvation. Through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Apostles formed themselves into a community and together witnessed Christ and engaged in the mission of proclaiming the Gospel.

In our day, the Church continues this mission as a community. The concept of Church though, cannot be associated with our Sunday worship alone. It needs to be extended from our worship into other areas of life.

Church needs to be a sense of living, a way to look at life and a way to encounter the Lord. Whether we gather after Mass in the vestibule, at the Fish Fry or around our dinner tables at home, where people of faith gather and remember the Lord’s goodness, there is Church. Of course, we are truly Church when we gather as a community around the table of the Lord and share Eucharist.

…Father John

Fifth Week of Lent
My Offering to God This Week

Sunday, March 25: I will forgive someone who has hurt me, remembering that I have hurt others.

Monday, March 26: I will reflect on Mary’s suffering as she watched her Son being crucified.

Tuesday, March 27: Today I will ask God to use me as an instrument of His love in all I do and say.

Wednesday, March 28: I will read and study God’s word daily.

Thursday, March 29: I will trust Jesus’ words.

Friday, March 30: I will pray to have my faith strengthened.

Saturday, March 31: I will reflect on world unity and peace.

Have you noticed the new lights on the main altar that illuminate the Cross and the two angels? Recently, a parishioner gave his time and skills to enhance our church. Thank you!
