THE WISDOM OF
POPE JOHN PAUL II

Your country prides itself on being a realized democracy, but democracy is itself a moral adventure, a continuing test of a people’s capacity to govern themselves in way that serve the common good and the good of individual citizens.  The survival of a particular democracy depend not only on its institutions, but to an even greater extent on the spirit which inspires and permeates its procedures for legislating, administering, and judging.

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Sunday, April 2, is the first anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II.  Archbishop Burke will celebrate the noon mass on that Sunday at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis to commemorate the death of Pope John Paul II.  Prayers for the canonization of Pope John Paul II will be included in the mass and the events of his Pastoral Visit will be recalled.  All are invited to participate.

At the Archbishop’s request those of you who cannot join him in St. Louis are encouraged to remember the day in their parishes.  At St. Joseph we will have Eucharistic Adoration on that Sunday to remember the Holy Father.  It will begin after the10:00 a.m. mass and conclude with benediction at 4:00p.m.  Please try to spend some time that afternoon visiting the Lord. May many come for benediction at 4:00p.m.  Pope John Paul II has left a rich spiritual heritage calling us to return to the regular practice of Eucharistic Adoration.  Please pray for his canonization if it is the will of God.

Please join us for the second of the four-session series that brings to life the beginning and development of Christianity. Originally aired on A & E, this epic saga embracing emperors and preachers, saints and sinners, the teaching of a man accepted by millions as the Savior, and the battles fought in His name.

CHURCH AND EMPIRE:  For 300 years, Christians were the target of violence and hatred in the Roman Empire.  That changed overnight-literally-when the Emperor Constantine saw a vision of Jesus in a dream.  The religion had gained its single most important convert.

We will meet on Thursday, March 16th at 7:00p.m. in the school auditorium known as “Kreft Auditorium”.  We are expecting guests from the surrounding churches. No food, just good discussion.

May God’s love and peace continue to be with you and your families.
