THE WISDOM OF
POPE JOHN PAUL II
Lent is thus a providential opportunity for
fostering the spiritual detachment from riches necessary if we are to open ourselves to
God. As Christians, we must direct our entire
lives to Him, for we know that this world we have no fixed abode: our commonwealth
is in heaven (Phil.3:20). At the end of
Lent, the celebration of the Paschal Mystery shows how the Lenten journey of purification
culminates in the free and loving gift of self to the Father. It is by taking this path
that Christs disciples learn how to rise above themselves and their selfish
interests in order to encounter in love their brothers and sisters.

ST. ANNE CHURCH,
FRENCH VILLAGE, MO.
As Archbishop Burke was leaving our parish after
the 10:00a.m. Mass he acknowledged the friendliness and the beauty of both St. Anne and
St. Joseph. Most important, he once again complemented this wonderful choir. We have a dedicated and extraordinary choir. However, we are still looking for a couple of altos
and sopranos to complete our choir. There
are many of you sitting in the pews with beautiful voices that would make a welcome
addition. Make the move upstairs to the Choir Loft and lift your voice to God!
Dont forget to come downstairs after the
4:00p.m. Mass today for a delicious CHILI and SOUP
supper. We will be serving until 6:30p.m. Dinner includes, chili, soup, hot dogs, dessert
and drinks for only $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for children under 10.
Our SPRING RUMMAGE SALE is
planned for March 25, 2006 in the Church Hall. For
further details or for pickup of items, please call Paula Pace at 358-5333 or Claudine at
358-7516.
ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN REGULATIONS
Then to all Christ said, Whoever wishes to
be my follower must deny his very self, take up his cross each day, and follow in my
steps.
(Lk9:23)
The Church has always helped us fulfill these
words of Jesus by prescribing very definite penance for all Catholics. Accordingly, the Pope and the American bishops
have outlined obligatory fast and abstinence as follows: Ash Wednesday (March 1st.)
and Good Friday (April
14th.) are days of abstinence for all Catholics over the age of
14.
On these two days, fast as well as abstinence is
also obligatory for those from the ages of 18 to 59. Abstinence means abstinence from
meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with
two smaller meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic will lightly excuse himself or herself
from this obligation.
All other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence
from meat. Here again Catholics will not hold
themselves lightly excused, but if there is a serious health problem, this obligation
would not apply. We should strive to make all
days of Lent a time of prayer and penance.
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Next school year, starting in September, we are
in need of one or two teachers to handle the Confirmation preparation class. This is a special preparation of all our young
people whom will be receiving the sacrament of Confirmation in the spring. We do this preparation every three years and this
is our time. Someone has always come forward
in the past and I am trusting in your generosity to come forward and help prepare our
children in this most important sacrament. I
will be waiting for your response.
Fr.
John
Second Fish Fry of this Lenten season will
be March 10th. beginning at
4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the Knights of
Columbus Hall. Adults $7.00- Children twelve
and under $3.00. Carry-outs available.
This weekend we will have a second collection
for the NATIONAL BLACK AND INDIAN MISSIONS. The
annual collection was authorized by the Catholic Church in our nation in 1884 and has
served the Black and Native American communities ever since- without interruption.
Churches and schools which have received
evangelization grants each year from the Black and Indian Mission Collection and were
destroyed by the hurricanes are determined to begin again their work of the new
evangelization. For example, the very active
Catholic Native American community of Du Lac, Louisiana, suffered terrible destruction and
is committed to return to its apostolic life.
As always your generosity is appreciated.
