All of us, in some way, experience sorrow and suffering in our lives.  No amount of economic, scientific, or social progress can eradicate our vulnerability to sin and to death.

THE STORY OF CHRISTIANITY –
THE FIRST THOUSAND YEARS

This four-session series includes a video each session that brings to life the first four segments of the beginning and development of Christianity. Originally aired on A & E, this is an epic saga embracing emperors and preachers, saints and sinners, the teaching of a man accepted by millions as the Savior, and the battles fought in His name.

Session 1 – Thursday, March 9th.at 7:00p.m. - First Congregational U.C.C. located on 20 Church St.

The Founding of a Faith: They were one of many sects barely tolerated by the Roman Empire.  But according to the Scripture, fifty days after Jesus died at Calvary, His followers were “filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages.”  With that miraculous event, a religion was born.

Session 2 – Thursday, March 16th.at 7:00p.m. - St. Joseph Catholic Church located on 15 St. Joseph Street.

Church and Empire: For 300 years, Christians were the target of violence and hatred in the Roman Empire.  That changed overnight-literally-when the Emperor Constantine saw a vision of Jesus in a dream.  The religion had gained its single most important convert.

Session 3 - Thursday, March 23rd at 7:00p.m. -Providence Baptist Church located on Hwy 47 across from Terre Du Lac entrance.

The Glory of Christendom: Five centuries after the death of Jesus, Rome fell to the Goths, plunging Europe into the dark Ages.  Yet on both sides of the continent, Christianity continued to grow.  It was soon to face a new challenge.

Session 4- Thursday, March 30th. at 7:00p.m. -First Baptist Church located on 41 E. School Street.

A Triumph of Faith: The Golden Age of Christianity began, appropriately enough, on January 1st.  On that day in the year 800, the Pope place a crown on the head of King Charlemagne, declaring him the new Holy Roman Emperor. Thus begins the first division in the Church of Jesus the Christ.
