RECONCILIATION WEEKEND 2002

FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 7:00-9:00P.M
SATURDAY, MARCH 16, 9:00A.M.-4:00P.M.

"Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Father gives to us in Christ His forgiveness and this encourages us to live in love, considering the other not as an enemy but as a brother." (from 2001 Lenten message of Pope John Paul II)

Archbishop Justin Rigali has invited all Catholics throughout the archdiocese to be part of an extraordinary moment of forgiveness and reconciliation. Reconciliation Weekend 2002 will be held the weekend of March 15-16, 2002. On Friday evening, March 15th, and again on Saturday, March 16th, priests will be available at 57 churches to hear confessions. All Catholics who are able to receive this sacrament are encouraged to do so.

Confession times: Friday, March 15, from 7:00-9:00p.m. (or until finished)
Saturday, March 16, from 9:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.

In addition to Reconciliation Weekend, we will also have a parish Lenten Penance Service with opportunity for confession on March 25, beginning at 7:00p.m. Extra confessors will be available.

May our celebration of Reconciliation Weekend 2002 help us in our resolve to come often to receive this Sacrament of Christ’s mercy.

Please remember to remove any flowers from the graves of your loved ones that you would like to keep. Preparations for the Easter season will begin on March 8, and any arrangements left on the graves will be removed.

GOD’S MERCIFUL LOVE
RENEW 2002

WEEK THREE – FATHER, I HAVE SINNED AN ACT OF CONTRITION

The prodigal son is a model of contrition and conversion for all Christians. Pope John Paul II tells us that contrition is the beginning and heart of conversion. It is about turning around and going back home to our Father in heaven. Contrition liberates us from sin and enables us to regain joy lost because of sin. Sorrow for sin coupled with the desire and resolve to change one’s ways and go back to the Father are central to the lifelong conversion that is part of the Christian life.

Be sure to join your group for the third week of God’s Merciful Love.

On April 2nd, the North County R-1 School District will be running a no tax increase Bond Issue entitled "Proposition K.I.D.S. Dr. Terry Gibbbons, Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Edward Garrigan, Associate Superintendent, will be at St. Anne Church presenting a detailed outline of the issues surrounding this very important Bond Proposal. If successful, a new Elementary School will be constructed in Bonne Terre and the Middle School in Desloge will receive much needed repairs and major renovation. Mark this date and time on your calendar and plan to attend. Lets Keep Improving District Schools – our children deserve a quality education!

HOW TO SPEND
TIME IN ADORATION

The late John Joseph Cardinal Carberry of St. Louis, in Reflections and Prayers for Visits with Our Eucharistic Lord, reminds us of the time-honored tradition of making a prolonged visit, or a holy hour with Jesus. He suggests a way to spend time with our Lord by remembering the acronym
ACTS- ADORATION – realizing the greatness of God, pondering who God is, who I am. Jn. 21:7, Lk. 2:8-20

CONTRITION (SORROW)
For my failings, my sin, my weakness and for the sins of the world. Lk. 5:27-32, 13:1-5, 15:7

THANKSGIVING –
For the blessings and gifts God has given to me, natural and spiritual. Mk. 14:22-25, Lk.2:25-32

SUPPLICATION (PETITON)-
Presenting to God my needs, whether spiritual or temporal, for body or for soul, especially for vocations, respect for life, family needs, and our country.

Other time-honored suggestions include:

PRAY WITH THE SACRED SCRIPTURE
PRAY THE ROSARY
JUST SPEND TIME WITH JESUS

Above all, try to spend at least twenty minutes in silent recognition of Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist. For your convenience the Eucharist will be exposed on Friday, March 1st beginning at 8:30a.m. Benediction will begin at 5:00p.m.

FRIDAY, MARCH 1:
The first K of C Lenten Fish Fry was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed the new addition of Catfish Fillets. The parents brought desserts and helped clean the kitchen and hall. Your help was much appreciated. This Friday, serving time will be from 3:30p.m. til 6:30p.m. Come and enjoy a delicious meal and help our School. The Home and School Association have asked Brian & Linda Abbott, Marty & Michelle Boyer, Chris & Julie Hill, Dick & Lori Kohm, Frank & Karen Basden, Charles & Darlene Dilbeck, C.Doak & Annette Hollway, Kevin Stegall or Ruth Hunt to represent the students of St. Joseph School to help work the Fish Fry. Many hands make light work.

IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS

In your daily prayers, pray that God will grant your servants to see your salvation; help your servants to take up their cross with patience each day; may your servants receive from their family and friends tender care; grant that society will acknowledge and respect the dignity of the elderly and let your servants Dave Knotts, Elmer Deterding, Gary Greer, Carol Willimason and Vivian Vogel return to our prayer community.

FESTIVAL 2002

The time is drawing to a close to enter your suggestion for FESTIVAL 2002. We have received several entries and would like to have even more. Some great things are happening.

WATCH FOR THE BILLBOARDS BETWEEN BONNE TERRE AND FARMINGTON ANNOUNCING THE FESTIVAL.
They should be out about a month before the Festival on June 23rd.

"A QUIET MOMENT"

Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, sculpture and prayer together, have been instrumental in furthering and expressing one’s spirituality and faith. Timothy Schmalz created an image of the Holy Family entitled "A Quiet Moment". The sculpture brings a message of family values. Perhaps this image can inspire. These "visual prayer" sculptures are on display at the Religious Articles Store. They can be purchased for $35.00. Please remember to have them blessed.

SUGGESTIONS FOR LENT

ATTEND MASS ON WEDNESDAY AND/OR FRIDAY MORNING AND MEDIATE ON THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS

"Above all, let your love for one another be intense because love covers a multitude of sins. Be hospitable to one another without complaining. As each one has received a gift , use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace." 1 Peter 4.

Through STEWARDSHIP, we have an opportunity to express our own faith in God in a way more meaningful than words. Through our offerings, we help ourselves as well as our brothers and sisters in the mission of the Church, thus doing the Lord’s will .

If you did not bring your INTENTION CARD, please do so sometime this week so our Parish can begin to plan for our future as God’s people working together.

Yours in Christ,

Father John
