Fish Fry

If you are looking for a really great fish meal at a reasonable price, don’t forget to attend the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry at 7897 Berry Road on each Friday during Lent. The price is $7 for adults and $3 for children, and carry-outs are available. Serving begins at 4:00 pm. Come and have dinner with your parish family. All proceeds help the parish school.

 Daughters of Isabella

The Daughters of Isabella are hosting a "Rummage Sale" on April 5th. When doing your spring housecleaning and are parting with your unwanted items, please do not discard them. Put them in a box and save them for the Rummage Sale as your discards might very well bring in profits for this event.

Educational Vacancy

St. Agnes Parish in Bloomsdale (Ste. Genevieve County) is seeking a full-time principal for its grade school (Pre-K through grade 8). To continue our high educational and spiritual development, the applicant must be a practicing Catholic with at least five years teaching experience, appropriate principal certification, and knowledge and experience in instructional leadership. A cover letter, resume and three letters of reference are to be sent by February 29, 2008 to Father Maes at 40 St. Agnes Drive, Bloomsdale, MO, 63627 and Stephanie M. Welling, Director of School Personnel, Catholic Education Office, 20 Archbishop May Drive, St. Louis, MO, 63119.

Our Lady Sodality

The Lady Sodality will host a chili supper on March 8th. In addition to their delicious chili, there will be baked goods and pre-picnic items for sale. Circle your calendar for this event!

Lenten Fasting

There are people who practice regular fasting for health reasons. For a number of days they drink water, tea, and juices. They say that after a fast they feel lighter, clearer, and more focused. The body is cleansed of impurities. Some call it "detoxing." The caffeine, refined sugars, and chemicals in processed foods work themselves out. The person gets a fresh start, and after the fast tries to incorporate changes. Less caffeine, less sugar, less alcohol, fewer processed foods.

In today’s readings we hear about fasting. Isaiah warns against using fasting to draw attention to oneself. Jesus, however, suggests there is a mourning aspect to fasting. When we fast during Lent, it is not for the sake of our physical but rather for our spiritual health. We draw our attention to the fallen world and our place in it. We are attentive to the ways we are separated from God. In fact, many people have transferred this concept of fasting away from food and other things we put into ourselves. They take a television fast, or a news fast, or a gossiping fast. The things that are toxic to our relationship with God are the things we should avoid and work out of our system.

This is especially true of Lent. The Ash Wednesday readings reminded us that this is "an appropriate time." We miss and long for the return of the bridegroom. We choose what is good and life-giving. We eat the Eucharistic bread, we drink from the cup that offers everlasting life.

Rosary Schedule

During Lent, the Rosary will be recited at
St. Joseph and St. Anne every Thursday at 8:30 pm. Please try and take advantage of this time frame to offer your devotion to Mary, the Mother of God.

A plenary indulgence is granted, if the Rosary is recited in a church or public oratory or in a family group, a religious Community or pious Association; a partial indulgence is granted in other circumstances.

School News

Students will not be in attendance at the school on Monday, February 18 due to the celebration of President’s Day.

Home and School Association

The Home and School Association will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 19 at 6:30 pm in Kreft Auditorium. Please make arrangements to attend this important meeting.
