ST. ANNE CHURCH
FRENCH VILLAGE, MO.

Lenten Observance
Archdiocese of St. Louis

Ash Wednesday (February 6, 2008) and Good Friday (March 21, 2008) are days of abstinence or all Catholics over the age of 14. On these two days, fast as well as abstinence is also obligatory for those from the ages of 18 to 59. Abstinence means abstinence from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholics will not hold themselves lightly excused, but if there is a serious health problem, this obligation would not apply.

Church in Central
and Eastern Europe

Pope Benedict XVI writes in his first encyclical, God Is Love (Deus Caritas Est), "Love is the light – and in the end, the only light – that can always illuminate a world grown dim and give us the courage needed to keep living and working" (no. 39).

With a love that brings radiant light, Catholics in the United States help to build parishes in many distant places through the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Your generous donations support seminaries, social service programs, youth ministry, pastoral centers, schools, church construction and renovation, and the spreading of the Gospel message through the mass media.

Your compassionate concern for the Universal Church beings Christ’s light to people and places once covered by a pall of darkness.

Spread the radiant light of love by generously supporting this collection on Ash Wednesday.

Bible Study

We will have a Bible Study on February 10th and March 2nd. Please come downstairs following the 10:00 am Mass. All students are welcome that are in grades 7 through 12. You DO NOT have to be confirmed to attend the class.

COFFEE AND DONUTS WILL BE SERVED DOWNSTAIRS AFTER
ALL THE MASSES

Offering You An Opportunity

Would you like to become an Altar Server?

Several interested parishioners have asked if they and/or their children can become an altar server. We have acknowledged that request. Any student (5th grade and up) and any adult can now have the opportunity to become an altar server.

Please meet in the church on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 10:00am. Mr. Mike Ferraro has agreed to train all that show up. This is the only day this class will be held.

Being on the altar as a server brings to light an entirely different view of the Mass. This is an opportunity to serve in a very special ministry. Please consider helping your parish in this way.

Feast Of The
Presentation Of The Lord

This weekend we celebrate the feast of he Presentation of the Lord. Mass and the blessing of candles is celebrated forty days after the birth of Jesus Christ commemorating the holy day on which Jesus was presented in the temple, fulfilling the law of Moses. After the priest’s greeting and introduction, he blesses the candles. Following Mass, the blessed candles are distributed to the congregation for home use. Candles blessed on Candlemas day should be used throughout the year for religious celebrations, sick room visitation and as sacramentals during time of hardship, danger and for Divine guidance. To prepare for a priest at the home of the sick or dying, arrange a small stand on which a clean white cloth has been spread. Place on the cloth a standing crucifix, two blessed candles and a saucer containing Holy Water. An offering is usually made by the recipient.

It is customary on the feast of St. Blaise to bless the throats of all parishioners. Those that would like to have their throats blessed can do so at all the Masses this weekend.

OUR LADY SODALITY WILL HAVE A BAKE SALE THIS WEEKEND AFTER ALL THE MASSES. PLEASE COME DOWNSTAIRS.
