Dear Parishioners:

As we approach the new year I would like to make a suggestion and ask that you pray and consider responding.

We are in need of "yes’s" and "10’s" to a very important but easy ministerial role in our Liturgy. Our ushers have been assigned the task of asking for help and they tell me that some have refused. The ministry of Gift Bearer represents all our hopes and desires and what will soon be our Savior’s gift of his Body and Blood.

A spot in the Church has been reserved for those who exercise this ministry for the day. I know that some of you feel that you are asked all the time and some of you are to shy to say yes. Please put your trust in the Lord and say "yes" when you have the opportunity.

Counting on your co-operation in this matter, I hope you will see it in your heart to say "yes" when called upon.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father John

Dear Friends:

It has been thirty years since Roe v. Wade and Doe V. Bolton became the law of the land, legalizing abortion on demand in all stages of pregnancy. With one stroke of the pen, the Supreme Court took away the personhood of the unborn child. Those unborn babies, whom we have always known to be human persons, were declared "nonpersons" with no legal rights. But we know that the immoral act of abortion cannot be made moral by simple edict. The taking of unborn human life is just as wrong today as it was thirty years ago.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in its recent statement, A Matter of the Heart, expressed gratitude for those who have worked tirelessly for human life and continue to do so, and acknowledged even though Roe v Wade still stands, the great strides that have been made. We are personally grateful to all those here in the Archdiocese of St. Louis who work for and support the Lifeline Coalition, Project Rachel and Birthright, all those who work in their parishes to promote an awareness of the sanctity and dignity of the human person, all those Helpers of God’s Precious Infants who gather at the Cathedral Basilica on the third Saturday of each month, as well as those who travel to Washington, D.C. annually to express our nation’s opposition to abortion.

On Saturday, January 18th at 8:00a.m., I will again join the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis to offer Holy Mass, followed by a prayerful Rosary Procession to the Planned Parenthood abortion facility, and a concluding Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. I invite you and your families to join us in this special time of prayer as we sadly commemorate the 30th anniversary of legalized abortion.

Sincerely yours,

We want everyone in the parish to receive a weekly copy of the St. Louis Review, and ask every household to subscribe. The annual subscription rate through the parish is $21.00

Please use the subscription renewal envelope in your envelope packet (or write your check for $21.00 to the parish – mark it "Review" – include your name and mailing address) and return it in the Sunday collection. Thank you for your participation.

There are many ways Catholic Charities employees, volunteers and donors have demonstrated "love of neighbor" by touching the lives of more that 105,000 individuals in need this year. Their work is truly the work of the entire Church, including each and every parishioner throughout the Archdiocese.

Archbishop Rigali concurs. Speaking on the topic of the mission of Catholic Charities, he said, "It is important, for their own spiritual good, to engage all Catholics in the Archdiocese to support the activities of Catholic Charities by their prayer, their encouragement and their sharing of time, talent and treasure."

A second collection will be taken the week – end of January 18-19. Please support the 2002 Catholic Charities Appeal. Your gift will help 127 programs of Catholic Charities, aiding children, families, the community, and our older population. No gift is too small. As always your gift is appreciated. Please be generous.
